Palacios WonderBook Review of R.J. Palacio's 'Marvel' Marvel, R.J. Palacios debut novel, was composed for kids 8 to 12 years of age, yet its message resists sorts. Distributed in 2012, its enemy of harassing, expert acknowledgment message will reverberate with adolescents and even grown-ups also. Style A few books are activity pressed, convincing the peruser to turn the page to discover what occurs straightaway. Different books are convincing on the grounds that they welcome perusers to draw in with characters who are genuine, who wake up off the page, and who maneuver the peruser into their story. Miracle is the last sort of book. Actually, next to no activity occurs inside its pages, but then perusers will end up profoundly influenced by the story. Synopsis August Pullman (Auggie to his companions) isn't a normal 10-year-old kid. He feels like oneâ and has the interests of one, yet his face isn't normal in any way. Indeed, its the kind of face that alarms children and makes individuals gaze. Auggie is really well-intentioned about everything. This is how he is, all things considered, and keeping in mind that he doesnââ¬â¢t like that individuals gaze, thereââ¬â¢s very little he can do about it. Since his face has required numerous reconstructive medical procedures, Auggie has been self-taught. Yet, there are no more medical procedures to be accomplished for some time, and now Augustââ¬â¢s guardians think itââ¬â¢s time that he goes to standard school, starting with fifth grade in the fall. The possibility of this alarms Auggie; he realizes how individuals respond to seeing him, and he thinks about whether he will have the option to fit in at school by any means. He courageously gives it a go, yet finds that itââ¬â¢s much like he anticipated. A significant number of the youngsters chuckle at him despite his good faith, and somebody has begun a game called the Plague, where individuals ââ¬Å"catchâ⬠a ââ¬Å"diseaseâ⬠in the event that they contact Auggie. One kid, Julian, drives the harassing assaults. Heââ¬â¢s the kind of child whom grown-ups find beguiling, yet truly, he is very mean to anybody not in his friend network. Auggie makes two dear companions: Summer, a young lady who really prefers Auggie for what his identity is, and Jack. Jack began as Auggieââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"assignedâ⬠companion, and when Auggie discovers this out, he and Jack have a run in. Be that as it may, they fix things up at Christmas, after Jack gets suspended for hitting Julian for sassing Auggie. This prompts a ââ¬Å"war, with the famous young men against Auggie and Jack. While simply mean words, as notes in the storage spaces, fly between the two camps, the pressure between them goes on until the spring. At that point theres an encounter between a gathering of more seasoned young men from an alternate school and Auggie and Jack at a rest away camp. They are miserably dwarfed until a gathering of young men who were once in the past against Auggie and Jack help shield them from the domineering jerks. At long last, Auggie has a fruitful year at school, and even makes the Honor Roll. Furthermore, the school gives him an honor for fearlessness, which he doesnt get, pondering, ââ¬Å"If they need to give me an award for being me, Iââ¬â¢ll take it.â⬠(p. 306) He considers himself to be standard, and notwithstanding everything else, he truly is only that: a conventional child. Survey Itââ¬Ës the direct, non-wistful way in which Palacio approaches her point that makes this such an amazing book. Auggie may have a phenomenal face, however hes a standard child, and that makes him relatable, regardless of his difficulties. Palacio likewise moves her perspective, recounting to the story through the eyes of characters other than Auggie. This permits the peruser to become more acquainted with characters like Auggies sister, Via, who discusses the manner in which her sibling assumes control over the familyââ¬â¢s life. In any case, a portion of different perspectives particularly of Viaââ¬â¢s companions feel fairly superfluous and impede the center of the book. The intensity of the book enjoys in how Palacio makes such an ordinary, relatable character from a kid living with such a phenomenal physical torment. Despite the fact that Wonder is suggested for kids ages 8 through 12, the books subjects of character, harassing, and acknowledgment make it intriguing perusing for a wide crowd too. About R.J. Palacio A workmanship chief by calling, R. J. Palacio first idea of the thought for Wonder when she and her kids were on an extended get-away. While there, they saw a little youngster who had a condition like Auggieââ¬â¢s. Her kids responded severely, which got Palacio contemplating the young lady and what she experiences every day. Palacio additionally considered how she could have better trained her youngsters to react to circumstances like this. The book propelled Random House to begin an enemy of harassing effort, called Choose Kind, with a site where individuals can share their encounters and sign a vow to get rid of tormenting. There you can likewise download an incredible Educator Guide for Wonder to use at home, or with a network grouop. Buddy Book Auggie Me: Three Wonder Stories, likewise by R. J. Palacio, is a 320-page assortment of three stories, each told from the perspective of one of three characters from Wonder: the domineering jerk Julian, Auggieââ¬â¢s most seasoned companion, Christopher, and his new companion, Charlotte. The accounts occur before Auggieââ¬â¢s going to class and during his first year there. This book is neither a prequel nor a continuation of Wonder truth be told, Palacio has clarified that she doesn't plan to ever compose either. Rather, this book is implied as an ally for the individuals who have just understood Wonder and need to expand the experience by becoming familiar with Auggies sway on the individuals around him. A tissue! We as a whole tumble down! Indeed, even today, kids honestly serenade this old nursery rhyme, bringing the familiar adage into the real world, Ignorance is Bliss. Its shocking, to imagine that this old rhyme in truth gives an ideal portrayal of one of Europes most exceedingly terrible bad dreams, the Great Plague. Numerous individuals overlook the repulsions of the Plague, and when they do recollect and consider it, Public heath is once in a while a factor that has a major influence when individuals begin to thoroughly consider things. There were many general wellbeing measures in 1665 the hour of the plague. Notwithstanding, what number of these measures worked? A significant reality to recall is that in those occasions, feelings and activities were either founded on or accused on religion and strange notion. For instance, individuals began walking the nation over, rebuffing themselves on the premise that the plague was the aftereffect of all of keeps an eye on transgression, while attempting to convince individuals of their motivation. Likewise, charms were utilized by certain societies, for example, the Abra Kadabra fascinate, which was either cut, or worn as defensive adornments to avoid the abhorrent spirits causing the plague. It appeared to be like the picture underneath. A B R A K A D A B R A B R A K A D A B R R A K A D A B A K A D A K A D A One measure they had was that of the red cross. This is the place they would paint a red cross on the entryways of individuals who were determined to have the plague. I figure this would have worked in light of the fact that it would tell individuals who had the plague, with the goal that they could abstain from becoming sick themselves. A law was made, saying that once somebody was sick with the plague they were to remain in their home. Any individual who happened to live in a similar house as the shocking soul was likewise secured, with dread that they could spread the malady. Homeless people were not permitted to ponder the avenues at whenever, and were executed promptly for doing as such without a given explanation. These, albeit reasonable thoughts (aside from the execution..) would not contribute towards general wellbeing, as the ailment was not infectious in the human network. It was in certainty passed on from insects living on dark rodents, yet this information had not yet been created. On the off chance that somebody was nibbled by this insect, at that point their future from that second would be between 23-29 days. Analysts were selected by individuals of high clinical position. It would be their undertaking of going around England, verifying who had the plague, and guaranteeing that the right requests were being satisfied by the town. I feel this would have assisted with making things progressively composed, which in general would have a major effect, since individuals would know about which towns to keep away from. Anyway negative my perspectives on the Public Health circumstance in 1665 may sound, I would detest for anyone to get the possibility that the clinical strategies and logical techniques were totally futile. Albeit exacting with laws, wrongdoing and discipline, the administration invested heavily in being sorted out. They took this to the point of looking through bodies, clearly to guarantee everybody was dead before internment. One scheme is that they were in undeniable reality searching for resources that could be valuable, or probably sold for an extraordinary benefit. Regardless of their inadvertent purposeful publicity, numerous residents were covered alive, just in light of the fact that there was no known remedy for the infection. Presently, during the time spent this, the carcasses were checked, and precise records were taken of the plague casualties. This was successful in positive manners, since it urged the administration to be progressively productive when it came to insights. .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 , .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 .postImageUrl , .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 .focused content zone { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 , .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879:hover , .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879:visited , .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879:active { border:0!important; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; obscurity: 1; progress: darkness 250ms; webkit-progress: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879:active , .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879:hover { mistiness: 1; progress: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 .focused content territory { width: 100%; position: re lative; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content improvement: underline; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; fringe span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: striking; line-stature: 26px; moz-outskirt sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content adornment: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: supreme; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u6619944b86afb9 b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879 .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u6619944b86afb9b4ebf5dbb3e66ac879:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: True Brand Loyalty EssayAll on the whole, the general wellbeing measures in real life all through the plague accomplished in reality work, and were viable in both positive and negative ways. . If you want to become a more productive entrepreneur, then you should definetely follow her advice.Poikos is basically taking 2D pictures and creates a 3D simulation of them to be applied to different industries like Healthcare.Martin: Hi. Today we are in Amsterdam with Poikos. Hi, who are you and what do you do?Nell: Iâm Nell Watson, Iâm Founder and CEO of Poikos. We enable the 3D body measurement of people, just using 2D camera hardware, like Iâm talking to you now, but typically more on a webcam, or smartphone, or tablet camera.Martin: Tell us a little bit more about how your business model works?Nell: We are a SaaS â" software as a service â" model. We provide subscriptions, ty pically B2B, for other companies to be able to embed our technology within their own services.Martin: So youâre basically targeting their websites so they can help measure their customers in order to individualize the product more?Nell: Yeah, I created the technology originally for mass customization. This idea of being able to have personalized goods made for one, just the way you want and just in your size to fit you like a glove.Martin: Your customers are more coming from the e-commerce or, like you said, from the gym part?Nell: Iâve very strong ambitions for the health market, having used the technology myself to create an idealized version of myself and to track how my weight changes as I get towards that goal.Martin: How does the technology work, because it sounds quite funny, from 2D to having a 3D model?Nell: Yeah, itâs a funny technology, Iâll admit that. Itâs funny because I set out to solve the problem of how do you capture 3D data? And I decided to take six mon ths out, and traveled all over the world, and I talked to very interesting professors, so many different nations, and I gradually gathered little bits of data, like playing detective. And after about six months we were able to start making a prototype and I put together a team and away we went. So it was very problem-focused. And we found the solution with just two pictures. We can do a technique called Auto- photogrammetry or Stereo-photogrammetry, which enables you to have a front and side of an image, and if you have those two pictures you can reconstruct 3D out of it. Thereâs a lot of algorithms and image processing in there, but thatâs basically how it works. Two pictures can reconstruct 3D.Martin: Is this some kind of technology where you have the intellectual property for it?Nell: Yes, we do have patents filed in the UK and US, and those will be pending soon.Martin: What other applications could I imagine from this kind of technology, because right now youâre targeting this e-commerce and maybe health or gym companies, what other applications could you think of?Nell: Customer fit is one, suits, customer fit bicycles even. As far as I understand, getting a good fit for a bike can cost $150 to $200 for the enthusiastsâ market. But those were high-value, high-margin, but low-volume markets. I think the greatest disruptive potential is within health, not just in terms of helping people to manage their weight, which is a huge problem all over the world, but we can also do things like create censuses, epidemiology, we can look at whether people in one area of a country have certain health problems or not. And we can begin to look for changes in the shape of the body, which may manifest conditions like Diabetes type 2 or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome before they are actually detectable by the person themselves or by a doctor.Martin: So if you want to target a different industry segment, do you think of different pricing schemes for this or even setting u p different websites so they are not mixed with user base or so?Nell: Pricing has actually been one of the most complex areas of the business to get straight. To be honest, weâre still working that out. Itâs not just about different sectors, but also different sizes of companies, different companies have different needs, different volumes of scans, but also different markets. We have some early adapters in India, weâve some early adapters. Obviously the same pricing scheme is unlikely to work well in both markets, so trying to stratify things by geography adds even more complication. So we are still experimenting with how to crack the best pricing model that suits everyone.Martin: Letâs talk a little bit about the corporate strategy of Poikos. I know a company in Germany that is doing a little bit something that is similar, theyâre doing something like taking the picture from Skype or a camera or so and then setting up some kind of 3D model, and they provide this size data , etc., to e-commerce stores. My question would be what is your competitive advantage, if you assume this to be a competitor? And how do you think you can perform better?Nell: Sure. I believe the company youâre talking about is UPcload . Great company, great company, I had the pleasure of meeting Sebastian Schulze, one of the co-founders, a couple of weeks ago at MIT, JSW in Morocco. Great guy, we were on a panel together. And it was very interesting to see the commonalities between the two companies, and yet how we took different philosophical perspective on certain things. As I understand it, UPcload has largely begun to move away from computer vision and into a statistical model. So they collect hundreds of thousands of different body measurements, mostly 2D rather than 3D data, and then from a couple of small, manually input measurements they can reconstruct with a good estimate what that body should be and the relevant sizes. And that is a fantastic application for e-commer ce. I think theyâre probably going to be very disruptive in that space. We focus on a different area. We are all about capturing snapshots of history, so itâs about this person and what they looked like at that time. I think that has many more applications for the custom fit where you need more measurements and, ideally, 3D body data to go with it, particularly for health, because obviously taking snapshots over time is how we understand how our health is today and where itâs going tomorrow.Martin: As I understand it, you are looking through the historical data, and they are only at one point in time?Nell: I think they have a very elegant solution for fitting of clothing. We find out what the measurements are today in order to better understand the best way of going forward form that point in health, or producing more complex measurements for mass customization.Martin: What do you think are the main drivers for your business model in order to, letâs say, conquer the world.Ne ll: Itâs interesting, itâs a nice problem to have, but Poikos can be applied in so many different sectors. And choosing an initial market as a beachhead has been an interesting decision. Mass customization is a reasonably small but growing sector, and thatâs where â" as I mentioned â" we have so many companies screaming at us for our technology. However, I wonder if health might be a very interesting place for our technology. As I said, itâs unique the ability to capture a snapshot of a person, this holistic idea of the body. And health is also very sticky in that people will come back every few weeks to check in and scan themselves and see whatâs changed. I think that being able to make a different, a true difference to peopleâs life and health, will give us a distinct competitive advantage going forward.Martin: One thing that I was wondering right now about is if you have all this data, letâs say of one million people or so over a time of two or three years, wouldn ât data privacy be an issue?Nell: Absolutely. The privacy of that data and making sure that it doesnât fall into bad hands, and that the user themselves is respected, is incredibly important. And insuring the privacy, the security and the integrity of that date and its use is something that is extremely important to me on a personal level. And I want to make that clear to our customers and our clients that weâre one of the good guys and they can count on us. I think that is another competitive advantage if we can clearly convey that message to our customers.Martin: And this custom fit market, how do you perceive the historical development in different countries, or maybe there are sub-segments, and how do you think these segments will perform over the next five years?Nell: Great question. As a businessman yourself, I am sure youâre familiar with this idea of traveling to the Far East for business trip and getting yourself measured for a suit, and then in three weeksâ time it arrives at your doorstep. I think that we have an opportunity to change the idea of how custom fit goods are made. Being able to serve a global market where you donât actually have to have the person in the store getting themselves measured, I think that is a really deal changer for the market itself. And I think that itâs going to unlock a new wave of mass customization. Weâve seen companies like Style Shake and United Styles come out with the promise of creating something you can have it your way in terms of the garment. You design it and it fits you like a glove. And theyâve all faced a lot of trouble. Itâs my hope that technologies like Poikos will enable a turn in the road for mass customization to really take off before the end of this decade.Martin: So basically every tailor should be afraid of you?Nell: No, not afraid. We are out to celebrate custom fit, and weâre out to empower people. Weâre not out to destroy, weâre out to cooperate, weâre out to make a real difference and a real benefit to the world.Martin: As you have a blog yourself about psychology and all this emotional stuff, we would like to share some insights with our readers about the emotional rollercoaster, and do you have psychological tips that youâre going to give first-time entrepreneurs?Nell: Absolutely. Iâve had a real roller-coaster on this startup and former startups. As an entrepreneur you know how it is. I realize that I felt better being able to share that journey. When I was just keeping it into myself it was getting me down a lot. It was difficult to shake off certain emotions, not just bad stuff but also the happy stuff, like you make a sale or somebody is really interested in what youâre doing. So I started sharing it. About six or nine months ago I started a blog and I started talking about the psychology of running a venture and the important of self-knowledge. This idea of understanding how oneâs mind works and beings able to hack oneâs thi nking to approach things in stoic, straightforward way, instead of being swept away by emotions. I have learnt techniques that mean that now if I have a bad day things will wash over me instead of knocking me back. And I decided that I really wanted to share that, and so Iâm working on a book at the moment, Iâve created a little game you can play that helps to teach these kinds of habits of entrepreneurship, because entrepreneurship is a discipline, itâs something that needs to be worked upon and can be learnt.Martin: Are there one or two techniques that you could share with our readers?Nell: Sure. I think the first is being able to break down a gigantic, big, hairy, scary situation, and being able to focus, Okay, forget about the big picture, what do you need to work on now, and what is going to give you the biggest benefit today? Okay, sit down and do it. Begin. And something else is that itâs easy to get burned out, you just spend too much energy and you put too much emot ion into things, and then you can get overawed by stuff. I found that sometimes even just getting up and doing the dishes and making your bed, if youâre really in a bad way, call it a success and then move on, and then the next day you do it a little bit more. I think that that is the best way of regaining oneâs motivation and oneâs energies after flirting with burnout. And those kinds of techniques enable you to keep going when otherwise other entrepreneurs might just have given up.Martin: I totally agree on the first point, because when we wrote a blog post about this emotional rollercoaster we learnt also that a lot of people are super-happy when looking at the long-term and thinking we could sell the company for billions of Euros if we continue to grow like this. But actually in maybe one week the biggest customer says we donât want to buy your product anymore, and they theyâre super down. So just focus on the big picture, but then keep on moving in small steps to what âs the goal.Nell: Absolutely. And this rollercoaster itâs something that isnât often talked about. Iâd like to change that. Letâs change that. Letâs get people talking about this stuff and supporting each other. I think thatâs so important.Martin: Thank you very much Nelly.Nell: Thank you. One of these music styles that was perhaps the most prominent music style to ever come out of Southern California was Surf Music. Surf music was a short-lived phenomenon that occurred from 1961 to 1965 (Nostalgia, 2002). Along with the surf music craze, Hollywood also started producing numerous movies about surfing, including Gidget, and Endless Summer (St. James Encyclopedia, 2003 and Nostalgia, 2002). These movies had some amazing soundtracks that helped popularize the surf music phenomenon. Dick was originally from Boston, but he moved to Southern California when he was seventeen (Wikipedia, 2003). While in California, he became popular for his country guitar playing. At the same tim e, he was spending a lot of time with the surfers on the beaches in California. He immediately became intrigued by the spirit of the surf culture, and the splendor of the ocean waves. He began experimenting with his music, trying to capture the rhythm and sounds of the ocean. He formed the group Dick Dale and the Del-tones in 1961 (Wikipedia, 2003 and Bettenville). His live performances became a huge local draw, and his double picking guitar style was admired by many (even Leo Fender who asked him to test some of his new amplifier prototypes with the notion that if his amplifiers could survive Dick Dales playing, they could survive anything) (Bettenville). At the end of 1961, he released his first single, Lets Go Trippin, which is considered to be the first surf rock recording (St. James Encyclopedia, 2003). More than 600,000 people died and this made the civil war the worst around that time. The reasons that led to the civil war are diverse with some people arguing that the term ââ¬Ëcivil warââ¬â¢ is inappropriate. We will write a custom essay sample on American Civil War or any similar topic only for you Order Now Some of the speculated causes were social, political, psychological, and economical. It was termed as an ââ¬Ëâ⬠irrepressible conflictâ⬠amongst Americans (Columbia Encyclopedia, 1993). Pressures that Lincoln faced as he contemplated the question of emancipation and why he did not free all the slaves Back in 1840, Lincoln was more inclined to compensate emancipation. He was against the slave trade and used to compensate those who lost their slaves. These compensations were financial and he insisted that they were voluntary. The major pressure that Lincoln faced was from anti-extensionists. They were opposed to compensated emancipation and this agitated Lincoln. He tried to revoke it but he was unsuccessful. Lincoln went ahead to introduce compensated emancipation to Delaware. He wanted his proposalââ¬â¢s inclusion in the Delaware legislature (The Lincoln Institute, 2001). Gradual emancipation featured in the draft bill and he further offered another bill that would order slave compensation by the federal government. These bills however flopped since George Fisher; the Delaware congressman lacked legislative approval. Slaves were in this era treated as personal property hence their loss would call for state compensation. The north however failed to agree with Lincoln. Lincoln underwent transformation and now campaigned towards the freeing of these slaves. He however saw it as unfair to just free them without offering their masters any form of compensation. Lincoln talked of having friends who put him under pressure to free the slaves while others wanted them to stay (The Lincoln Institute, 2001). In his quest for emancipation proclamation, Lincoln did not quite succeed in freeing all the slaves. The southern part remained opposed to this move and so only, the ones in the north were freed. Those states that were under the confederacy refused to honor this move. The civil war united the south to the north and they had to obey Lincolnââ¬â¢s rule. In 1863, Abraham Lincolnââ¬â¢s Emancipation Proclamation policy ended slavery in America (Think quest Library). Compare the problems faced by the administrations of Lincoln and Davis in prosecuting the war. Why was Lincoln more successful in resolving his problems? Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis were the U.S president and the confederate president respectively. Prosecuting the civil war was tricky especially on the Southerners side led by Davis. His confederate government was not in a position to sustain its army after several sieges by Lincolnââ¬â¢s troops. There was a deficit in food supply, transport, and clothing. At the same time, the horses went hungry due to lack of fodder and proper care. The ammunition that was in use was faulty and this made all the logistics work against them. Lincoln was faced with problems such as rejection by the seven states that indeed pulled out of the union thus the formation of the confederation. He thus embarked on changing his generals and this worked, as he was able to conquer the South (Pagewise, 2002). The civil war was a major success for Lincoln due to his fighting tactics and ability to strategize. He was seen as a better leader as he was skilled, more eloquent, pragmatic, and flexible and this endeared him to his people. He had great choice when it came to picking subordinates for his administration. He was also very good in delegation. Davis on the other hand was seen as a lesser leader owing to the fact that he was rigid and antisocial. He therefore managed to make more enemies than friends. His strategy further failed as he followed the southernersââ¬â¢ decision to send armies to the vast confederacy. The resources were limited and this resulted in a thinned out distribution of the army. This led to their resounding defeat (Storie, 2004). Conclusion The American civil was something that could have been evaded. They only needed to be more rational. The freeing of slaves has been controversial and Lincoln is said to have cared little about them. The black people were treated as personal property and that is why bills on compensation were doing their rounds. This was split between two sides where one was for emancipation and the other for their stay in America to provide labor. Lincoln carried the day and slave trade was abolished in all states of America. References Columbia Encyclopedia. (1993). Causes of the civil war. Slavery was abolished, supremacy of the national government was confirmed and secession had been refuted. Reconstruction did not last very long, in fact it lasted for twelve years. We will write a custom essay sample on American Civil War or any similar topic only for you Order Now Even though the northern states won, the southern states lost thousands of lives, properties were destroyed, and it created many tasks to be accomplished in order to reunite the country. Some people however did not like the new laws that stated that blacks could vote, own guns, be out after dark, and consume alcohol. The thirteenth amendment said that slavery was outlawed in 1865. In 1866, amendment fourteen stated that all freed slaves could gain citizenship in the United States. The fifteenth amendment let the slaves have the right to vote, which happened in 1867. Since the slaves had just been freed and they have been slaves since they were born, they had nothing to their name. So therefore, people did everything they possibly could to stop them from voting and being active in government. They would say that in order to vote, one had to pass a literacy test (none of them knew how to read or write), and that their grandfather had to pay taxes in order for them to pay taxes, but since they were slaves, their grandfathers were too. The Ku Klux Klan, infamously known as the KKK, is a group of white men, who were fairly wealthy, who went around threatening people, burning their houses down, killing them, or burning crosses on their front yards. The KKK did this only because they did not want black African Americans to be able to have the same rights as a white man. But according to General George Thomas and document 2, the purpose of the Ku Klux Klan was to have a safe haven for people looking to rebel. According to Dr. W.E.B DuBois, blacks who wanted to work should not have been in politics, and in order to make a living, the African American was obliged to give up his political power (doc. 6). However, some slaves stayed in their houses where they were enslaved because it gave them shelter, food, clothes, and a sense of security. In document 7, John McCoy was given the option of staying in his slave ownerââ¬â¢s house, or being free. His slave owner said he could not pay him, but he will give him food and clothes. So Mr. John McCoy decided to stay and have a permanent house and a continuing food supply. Even though Rutherford B. Hayes won the election of 1876, he shouldnââ¬â¢t have (doc. 8). He only won because he told the southern democrat congressmen if he was elected he would take the troops out of the south ending reconstruction. Congressââ¬â¢ reconstruction efforts failed because of all these reasons. All the southern state governments were restored, and the citizenship of freed slaves rapidly were taken away or lessened. Soon the former slaves fell into a second class citizenship characterized by a system of state-enforced discrimination and segregation. How to cite American Civil War, Essay examples American civil war Free Essays The South States of the United States dependent upon agriculture as a source of foreign and domestic exchange and therefore held a negative feeling about abolition of slavery. Nevertheless in order to save the image of the constitution as a legal binding document that granted freedom to all Abraham Lincoln together with the support of the Union states felt that liberal source of labour was much more profitable both to the economy and civilization of the United States. The cotton and tobacco producing states felt oppressed by the antislavery tactics of the federal government and promptly seceded since the federal government was acting beyond the provisions of the constitution in abolishing slavery and therefore in response decided to secede from the Union for independence since they considered the Unionââ¬â¢s constitution less supreme to individual statesââ¬â¢ constitution. We will write a custom essay sample on American civil war or any similar topic only for you Order Now Therefore the American civil war was about the issue of different views about free labour against slavery and the subsequent supremacy of the Unionââ¬â¢s constitution over individual states independence. The Union established the 13th amendment act that abolished slavery by allowing all men to be free and at liberty to and in order to preserve the constitution that formerly paradoxically upheld slavery, Abraham Lincoln had support the Unionââ¬â¢s war against the pro-slavery south (Cornell University Institute, 2010). The federal government had its quarters at the Washington D. C. while the Confederation has it headquarter at Virginiaââ¬â¢s Richmond. The Unionââ¬â¢s economy was organized and well established through the promotion of industries and use of immigrants as industrial workers and the general population while the south cotton and tobacco states derived their economic subsistence from agriculture with over five million slaves. The Republican Party believed in democracy and justice regardless of ethnicity as a fundamental right under the auspice of the constitution-consequently in order to protect the supreme constitutionââ¬â¢s aspirations to promote a coherent and democratic America the Union had to fight the southern militia that were against the Union control and abolition of slavery (Stampp, 1981, 144). Religious, cultural and intellectual freedoms were being undermined in the South against the Union governmentââ¬â¢s principle of the 13th amendment act and the allowed slavery was denting the image of US in Europe that widely perceived the presence of slavery to as a sign of inability within the Unionââ¬â¢s government to act. Economically, the Union benefitted from the Union government economic policies and taxation more than the confederation. Therefore it was a mandatory economic issue that the United States had to be kept together despite the civil war through proper conflict resolution that would see the economic models of the North America spread to the south in order to end the former economic disparities between the two regions. The economic value of the United states in the international market was dependant on the union more than a divided America that would soon enter into worse civil unrest realities and fierce interstate rivalry of ideologies and religious views that would have torn American into pieces as the American enemies projected as a mechanism to further colonize and control the economic power of the vast continent. Lincoln as the president had the right to preserve the Union from disintegration due to diverse political views in order to look in control (Stampp, 1981, 192). Military aggression of the southerners was well advanced to inflict damage in courage and sustainable conquest tactics due to the recently concluded Mexican war experience to use the horse and the gun more effectively. Also, the North as the government knew that they were disadvantaged in military action and therefore the war had to be fought with a common ground that would help in enlisting more soldiers to defeat the south (McWhiney, 1984,170). Therefore the Union was aware that in any case the southern aggression had to be suppressed if the power of the Union government under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln was to be recognized with respect as a legally binding Union. Therefore President Lincoln referred to the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation as the ââ¬Å"last card, and I [Lincoln] will play it and may win the trick. â⬠And therefore ââ¬Å"we must make that proclamation effective by victories over our enemies. â⬠Since ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s a paper bullet, after all, and of no account, except we can sustain itâ⬠(Don, 1862)-thus the president and the union were exercising a crucial and political will by suppressing the southern insurgency that threatened to break apart the United State into meaningless defragmentation that would soon shrivel up in economic and political disparity. The south secede was politically seen as a form of annexation against the United States and Lincoln would have gone down the history as the president who broke the Union. Consequently, the Union had a political right to protect the US from becoming desolate in the face of the determined southerners who believed in offensive wars that ââ¬Å"have many advantages; purely defensive ones will always end with submissionâ⬠and that ââ¬Å"the greatest minds in the South are coming to the conclusion, that our liberties are to be won by the bayonet. Those regiments or companies that most distinguish themselves in bayonet charges will march on the true road to honor and prefermentâ⬠(McWhiney, 1984, 144); such propaganda in the general media put the Union government into task of either preventing the escalating confrontation by the Confederation or face imminent alienation. Therefore the preservation of the Union was quite dependant in the military power of the Union over the south as the civil war was already in progress. The south seceded from the war after the election of Abraham Lincoln as the president of the United States. The southern economy was dependant on agriculture. With the large scale growing of cotton, slaves and land conservation was necessary. The slaves were needed since they were a source of cheap labor on the white farms. As opposed to the south, the northââ¬â¢s economy dependent on industrial production of finished goods thus the slaves was not needed in the production. This meant that the southern life was based on the plantation and firm system while the northern life was based in the cities. The southerners who benefited from agriculture were pleased to go to war with the aim of attaining independence as they thought the war would take a short time and they would come out victorious as they were better skilled fighters than the northerners. However, since the war showed no sign of coming to an end while the northern seemed to be taking all the advantages, the northern felt the need to guard and conserve their land against any force especially the northern thus leading to most abandoning the fighting to and protect their properties at home. ( Kelly 2010) The war of states versus federal rights led to the emergence of two camps within the government whereby each wanted to be in control over the other. After the American Revolution, a weak federal government formed by thirteen states called for a strong constitution since problems were on the rise. The frequent problems led to the secret creation of the US constitution by the leaders. Due to the absence of some key leaders like Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry during the constitution making, it was felt the constitution had failed to put in mind the statesââ¬â¢ rights of acting independently whereby a state would decide whether to accept or refute federal rights. This led to the idea of nullification that would see the freedom for states to rule the federal act as either unconstitutional or not. The southern states were for the option of each state making its own law instead of the central government. This was nullification as campaigned for by people such as John C. Calhoun who greatly advocated for the nullification. When nullification failed to succeed, the southern states felt disrespected and uninvolved in the government issues. The southerners then opted for the secession as an option (Kelly2010). Land gained from the Louisiana Purchase and Mexican war saw the Americans posses vast tracks of lands. This led to the big debate as whether the new states acquired could be treated as slaves or Free states. The 1820 Missouri compromise solved the issue by proclaiming that slavery was illegal while other alternates suggested several awareness programs for the slaves as the federal government was to compensate the slave owners. The south was left to rethink its alternatives on the issue of slavery where it picked on benefits versus cost in deciding the fight. (Michael 1996)Another conflict arose as to what would happen to the conquered lands after the war. The 1846 Wilmot Proviso by Wilmot David proposed that the land should be slave free a move strongly opposed in a debate. Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 that caused the freedom to have slaves or not in the two states led to a lot of blood shedding to the states. The wrangles led to the south withdrawal from the government as they felt they were being ignored. The growth of the abolition movements by the northernerââ¬â¢s against slavery while proclaiming the negative impacts of slavery led to the increase in number of anti slavery supporters especially from the outside nations who sympathetically joined in the slavery abolition movement thus favoring the north against the south to the extent of supporting the south in war that eventually saw the south loose over the north. (Kelly 2010). Though the victory of Lincoln in the elections saw the south in the state of South Carolina declare a secession thinking that Lincoln was who was a presidential candidate from the north was elected so as to favor the interests of the anti slavery people from the north thus he could not serve their interests . The southerners further thought that they could lose their land to the northern who were now in control of the whole state thus causing some men in the battle ground feign excuses to get back home and manage their possessions. States like South Carolina stated the reason for secession being constitutional violation under Lincoln to which the Union saw as a form of political annexation against the presidency and the founding fathers view about America (Michael 1996). In conclusion the war that was sparked off by the issue of slavery in order to protect the supremacy of the Union constitution against the literally annexation of the United states by the South was won and the servitude done away with. Remarkably, President Lincoln preserved the Union and established a better platform that allowed the integration of the economic value of the United States as one nation. Wireless Computing is governed by two general forces: Technology, which provides a set of basic building blocks and User Applications, which determine a set of operations that must be carried out efficiently on demand. This paper summarizes technological changes that are underway and describes their impact on wireless computing development and implementation. It also describes the applications that influence the development and implementation of wireless computing and shows what current systems offer. II. Introduction Wireless computing is the topic of much conversation today. The concept has been around for some time now but has been mainly utilizing communication protocols that exist for voice-based communication. It is not intended to replace wired data communication but instead to be utilized in areas that it would be otherwise impossible to communicate using wires. Only recently has the industry been taking steps to formulate a standard that is more suitable to data transmission. Some the problems to be overcome are: a. Data Integrity - relatively error free transmission, b. Speed - as close as possible to the speed of current wired networks, c. Protection - making sure that the data now airborne is encoded and cannot be tapped by unwelcome receivers, d. Compatibility - ensuring that the many protocols that sure to be created subscribe to a standard to allow inter-operability, e. Environmentally safe - strengths of electromagnetic radiation must be kept within normal levels. In our study of the theories and implementation concerns of wireless computing, we found that it is being treated in an object-oriented fashion. Scientists and development crews, including the IEEE, are doing their best to implement wireless connectivity without changing the existing computer hardware. As a result, a lot of focus is on using existing computer hardware and software to convert data to a format compatible with the new hardware, which will be added to the computer using ports, or PCMCIA connections that already exist. This means that wireless communication will be transparent to the user if and when wireless computing is utilized on a wide scale. Wireless computing applications covers three broad areas of computing today. Replacement of normal wired LAN's need to retain the speed and reliability found in wired LAN's. Creation of semi permanent LAN's for quick and easy setup without the need for running wires. This would be necessary for events such as earthquakes. The last category is that of mobile computing. With advent of PCMCIA cards, notebook computers are being substituted for regular desktop machines with complete connectivity of the desktop machine. However, you lose the connectivity when out of the office unless you have a wireless means of communicating. On the compatibility issue, the ability to mix wireless brands on a single network is not likely to come soon. The IEEE Standards Committee is working on a wireless LAN standard -- 802.11, which is an extension of the Ethernet protocol. Because the field of wireless communication is so broad, the IEEE was not able to set a standard by the time private researchers were ready to test their theories hoping to set the standard for others to follow. II. Methods There are a few methods of wireless communication being theorized and tested. Radio: This is the method that makes use of standard radio waves in the 902 MHz to 928 MHz frequency range. Although these frequencies are well used, methods have been developed to ensure data integrity. Spread spectrum transmission of data is a method where the transmitter will send information simultaneously out over many frequencies in the range increasing the change that all data will eventually reach the receiver. Frequency hopping is an additional measure that also enables data security. The 26 MHz ranges of frequencies is further divided in to channels. The transmitter then sends out data hopping from one channel to the next in a certain pattern known to the receiver. Within each channel, spread spectrum transmission can be used to maintain interference avoidance. Some of this transmission manipulation can be avoided by transmitting at a frequency that is less used. Some developers have tried transmitting in the gigahertz range. The disadvantages here are: a. Higher frequencies mean shorter wavelengths and shorter wavelengths do not penetrate solid objects like walls and floors; b. The same transmission strength employed by lower wavelength transmitters yields a shorter range at higher frequencies. This means that transmission Arjun Mcnamarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00344021932280896310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151861441356017834.post-80818430435090001942020-03-20T13:46:00.001-07:002020-03-20T13:46:03.034-07:00Montagnards essaysMontagnards essays The Muong people, or better known to westerners as the Montagnards, inhabit The Central Highlands of Vietnam in Southeast Asia. They settled about two thousand years ago and learned to live in harmony with the earth. There are many separate tribes. These include the Bru, Pacoh, Rhade, Bahnar, Jarai, Cua, Sre, Nop, Mnong, Kayong, Lat, Monom, Halang, Hre, Sedang, Jeh, Chru, Nop, and more are probably unknown. Most dwell within a three-hundred kilometer stretch from north to south. It is from the Yen Bai Province to the Nghe An Province of Vietnam. These mountainous lands make the southern portion of the Annam Cordillera and the area is visible from any location along the central coastal plain of Vietnam. Geographically speaking, over the years this region has been accepted as the Vietnamese Central Highlands. The name Montagnard is actually pronounced mountain-yard. It is French for mountain dweller or mountain people. Those who live in Vietnam refer to themselves as Dega. In their folklore, De and Ga were the first Montagnards in Southeast Asia. For Americans, it is Adam and Eve. The Montagnards are hardly similar to the Vietnamese people of the populated lowland area of Vietnam. Their language comes from the Mon Khmer linguistic collection and the Malayo Polynesian stock. There are no books or scripts to teach future generations because they were all destroyed after the Vietnam War. In essence, the living Montagnards are the only source of cultural knowledge. These people do not resemble the Vietnamese either, but physically, they resemble Indonesians, Malays, and Cambodians. Everything between the Montagnard people is shared. They have a deep respect and relationship with their natural surroundings. Nothing is taken for granted and there are appointed officials to be stewards to the environment. In this article, we will walk through some examples of the use of bitmaps, icons, and cursors from resources. Location of Resources Placing resources in the .exe file has two mainà advantages: The resources can be accessed more quickly because it takes less time to locate a resource in the executable file than it does to load it from a disk file. The program file and resources can be contained in a single unit (the .exe file) without the need for a lot of supporting files. The Image Editor First ofà all, we need to create a resource file. The default extension for resource files isà .RES. Resource files can be created withà Delphis Image Editor. You can name the resource file anything you want, as long as it has the extension .RES and the filename without the extension is not the same as any unit or project filename. This is important, because, by default, each Delphi project that compiles into an application has a resource file with the same name as the project file, but with the extension .RES. Its best to save the file to the same directory as your project file. Including Resources in Applications In order to access our own resource file, we have to tell Delphi to link our resource file in with our application. This is accomplished by adding a compiler directive to the source code. This directive needs to immediately follow the form directive, like the following: {$R *.DFM} {$R DPABOUT.RES} Do not accidentally erase {$R *.DFM} part, as this is the line of code that tells Delphi to link in the forms visual part. When you choose bitmaps for speed buttons, Image components or Button components, Delphi includes the bitmap file you chose as part of the forms resource. Delphi isolates your user interface elements into the .DFM file. To actually use the resource, you must make a few Windows API calls. Bitmaps, cursors, and icons stored in RES files can be retrieved by using the API functions LoadBitmap, LoadCursor, and LoadIcon respectively. Pictures in Resources The first example shows how to load a bitmap stored as a resource and display it in a TImage component. procedure TfrMain.btnCanvasPic(Sender: TObject);var bBitmap : TBitmap;begin bBitmap : TBitmap.Create; try bBitmap.Handle : LoadBitmap(hInstance, ATHENA); Image1.Width : bBitmap.Width; Image1.Height : bBitmap.Height; Image1.Canvas.Draw(0,0,bBitmap); finally bBitmap.Free; end;end; Note: If the bitmap that is to be loaded is not in the resource file, the program will still run, it just wont display the bitmap. This situation can be avoided by testing to see if theà bBitmap.Handleà is zero after a call toà LoadBitmap()à and taking the appropriate steps. Theà try/finallyà part in the previous code doesnt solve this problem, it is just here to make sure that the bBitmap is destroyed and its associated memory is freed. Another way we can use to display a bitmap from aà resource is as follows: procedure TfrMain.btnLoadPicClick(Sender: TObject);begin Image1.Picture.Bitmap. LoadFromResourceName(hInstance,EARTH);end; Cursors in Resources Screen.Cursors[]à is an array of cursors supplied by Delphi. By using resource files, we can add custom cursors to the Cursors property. Unless we wish to replace any of theà defaults, the best strategy is to use cursor numbers starting from 1. procedure TfrMain.btnUseCursorClick(Sender: TObject); const NewCursor 1;begin Screen.Cursors[NewCursor] : LoadCursor(hInstance,CURHAND); Image1.Cursor : NewCursor;end; Icons in Resources If we look at Delphisà Project-Options-Applicationà settings, we can find that Delphi supplies the default icon for a project. This icon represents the application in the Windows Explorer and when the application is minimized. We can easily change this by clicking the Load Icon button. If we want, for example, to animate the programs icon when the program is minimized, then the following code will do the job. For the animation, we need aà TTimerà component on a form. The code loads two icons from resource file into an array ofà TIconà objects; this array needs to be declared in the public part of the main form. Well also needà NrIco, that is an Integer type variable, declared in theà publicà part. Theà NrIcoà is used to keep track of the next icon to show. public nrIco : Integer; MinIcon : array[0..1] of TIcon;...procedure TfrMain.FormCreate(Sender: TObject);begin MinIcon[0]:TIcon.Create; MinIcon[1]:TIcon.Create; MinIcon[0].Handle:LoadIcon(hInstance,ICOOK); MinIcon[1].Handle:LoadIcon(hInstance,ICOFOLD); NrIco:0; Timer1.Interval:200;end;...procedure TfrMain.Timer1Timer(Sender: TObject);beginif IsIconic(Application.Handle) then begin NrIco:(NrIco1) mod 2; Application.Icon:MinIcon[NrIco]; end;end;...procedure TfrMain.FormDestroy(Sender: TObject);begin MinIcon[0].Free; MinIcon[1].Free;end; In the Timer1.OnTimer event handler, IsMinimized function is used to see whether we need to animate our main icon or not. A better way of accomplishing this would be to capture the maximize/minimize buttons and than act. Final Words We can place anything (well, not everything) in resource files. This article has shown you how to use resources to use/display bitmap, cursor or an icon in your Delphi application. Note: When we save a Delphi project to the disk, Delphi automatically creates one .RES file that has the same name as the project (if nothing else, the main icon of the project is inside). Although we can alter this resource file, this is not advisable. The widespread insensitivity to the push by the social movements in these nations and the outright downplaying of the quest for recognition and respect is also made mention of. This is an idea I am going to apply in analyzing a journalism article. The journalism article in focus is ââ¬Å"The Racism and Racial Divides in Venezuelaâ⬠by Gregory Wilpert. This article addresses issues of political geography in an evidently racist Venezuela. This paper analyses and reports on how the author of the political geography article would respond to the journalism article. In the journalism article, there are a great deal of issues on international order and the perceptions that are largely accepted and internalized by certain sections of the worldââ¬â¢s population. Key among these and widely explored in the journal article is the concern for racism in the world in general and in Venezuela in particular. As reported in the journalism article, it is evident that the mindset of most of the Venezuelans, humans from different geographical locations of the world are and will never be equal. On the face of it, Venezuelans would say that there is no racism in the country, but the opposite proves true. They would say that it does not matter whether one is dark, brown or white since they all consider themselves to be ââ¬Å"Mestizoâ⬠or ââ¬Å"brownâ⬠(Wilpert 2). The journal article gives an account of how the opposite of this statement is proven during the visit by the Trans Africa Forum to the nation of Venezuela. This position of reality of racism in Venezuela was made clear by the very delegation in their final press conference in the country. The delegation mentioned the Venezuelan news commentators who referred to their trip as a ââ¬Ëburnedââ¬â¢ tour. This is compared to students who live off-campus who according to the respondent from the interview exhibit higher dropout rates than those living on campus. There is a lot of research done by people in the field of higher education looking at the impact that living on campus has for students. It has been shown repeatedly that students on campus are more likely to have a higher GPA than the students who do not. They are more likely to stay at the institution and graduate than those students who do not live on campus. It has been shown repeatedly that students on campus are more likely to have a higher GPA than the students who do not. They are more likely to stay at the institution and graduate than those students who do not live on campus. There are exceptions to the mandatory on-campus living requirements including if someone has ever served in the military and/or is of a certain age usually above 22 years of age. These individuals are allowed to live off-campus because they are deemed to possess the necessary and required skills and abilities to live alone. The insistence on having a mandatory on-campus living requirement is also based on the need for institutions of higher learning to raise funds. These funds are used to support other facilities and amenities in the universities other than the accommodation facilities (Kuh et al 16). On-campus living requirements are policies are supported and opposed in equal measure by both students and parents depending on the perspective one is looking at it from. On-campus living is one of those life stages where young adults get to leave their homes and start living on their own away from home. On-campus accommodation acts as a transition in the journey towards independence (Kwoka-Finning 148). Globalization is defined as the absence of borders and barriers to trade, the crystallization of the world as a single place, or the overlapping of the interests of business and society. Globalization is a process whereby world-wide interconnections in virtually very sphere of activity are growing. This rise of these interconnections is the result of shifts that have taken place in technological, political, and economic spheres. The process of globalization means flow of people, flow of technology, flow of capital, growing economic interconnectedness. This process impacts upon regional tourism and hospitality market in many ways. The tourism and hospitality industry brings together hosts and guests from different cultures with different characteristics, expectation and values. To improve competitive position in the global market, the industry needs to satisfy the expectations and needs of their guest. Therefore, it remains an important issue as to how well prepared the tourism and hospitality industry is to handle this flow of peoples and fusion of cultures. Globalisation has also impacted on the composition of the domestic tourism market as this now include multi-ethnic as well as multicultural migrant groups. Yet another impact of globalisation has been the multicultural workforce in the industry itself. Globalisation changed todays hospitality industry. Due to globalisation the managers of the hospitality industry are capable to learn about various cultures as they get to mix with people from various aspect of life and therefore, develop knowledge of them. Due to globalisation the guest base has growth strongly. Tourists travel not for holidays, business, health and different other intentions too. Therefore, this has developed the market for the hospitality industry, which acquired its great income from international tourists. Tourists always spend money when they come in because of that foreign exchange increases. Therefore it is of major value to the economy as globalisation helps to bring in money into the country. Moreover, due to globalisation the industry requires to operate advance technology. Since one wants to fascinate as many visitors as possible, hospitality organisation frequently need to advance and improve their services. For example: Singapore flyer, using faster and advance technology in hotels, so that the guest is gratified. Companies are frequently thinking of advance and innovative ideas to fascinate more visitors. Due to globalisation, more tourists come into our country and more people are required to serve and cater to their needs. So, with the advent of globalisation, there are plenty of more jobs available for people within the hospitality industry. Due to globalisation, more people move around, to facilitate this, the travel industry requires to develop as well. People who come into our country by air, or ship, or land use the transport services provided as well. Due to globalisation, there are different types of international services/cuisines. Since there are plenty o f different tourists with various cultures, custom, cuisines and languages, the hospitality industry includes recipes and various other services to cater to them. These services are available to the locals too, which makes even better. Nevertheless, globalisation has negative impacts on the hospitality industry and also, there are some challenges and difficulties for todays leader in hospitality firms. Due to globalisation, the hospitality industry can hire people from various countries as it is usually cheaper they may sometimes have difficulties in communicating with the guests. Many guests get quite irate as a consequence of this. As there are from various cultures, one needs to be attentive not hurt them. As example, a Hindu will not eat beef so that serving person should be aware of food which contains beef . (unless specifically asked). What is acceptable by one culture may be frowned upon by another. For the communication, technology has been increased because of international barriers, (through the internet, voice recordings.) This has not keept the human touch. A leader from the hospitality industry has a multicultural challenge, managing a diverse workforce and trying to keep up with rapidly shifting trends. Cultural intelligence provides a better approach to this leadership challenge. Cultural intelligence (CQ) is the capability to function effectively across national, ethnic and organizational cultures. Leader has to have knowledge of different cultures. CQ is needed to understand diverse guests, manage diverse teams, recruit and develop cross cultural talent, demonstrate respect and adapt leadership style; without these knowledge hotel can faces many problem. If a manager does not understand different culture, how will he understand different guest from different culture, how will he manage his employees from different culture. It can be affect financially on the hotel. Hotels can have financial losses caused by managers not understanding different cultures. Looking at these challenges and difficulties, it shows that, cross cultural management plays an important role to compete in a global marketplace. The mistakes mention above may results into some consequences. As example- where a strong and forceful personality overcomes the lack of formal delegation or where an inadequate leader is supported by his subordinate who effectively acts as the leader. Failure to delegate successfully to a more knowledgeable subordinate may mean that the subordinate emerges as an informal leader and this could have possible adverse consequences for the manager and organization. Serious mistakes can be made while dealing with people from different cultures. For example- eye contact in western countries is normally associated with confidence, politeness and attentiveness but in some African countries can be seen as rude and disrespectful. Bulgarians nod when they mean no and shake their heads when they mean yes while the Greek nod upwards or raise their eyeb rows for no and shake the head side to side or tilt it to say yes. A lack of cultural literacy can lead to incorrect assumptions, poor relationships and a failure to make useful business connections. So to avoid these mistakes a proper training should be given to the staff by his manager because in any company you will find many people from different culture and different cities so as every person have their own different culture, everyone have their own body language and facial expressions which can results into some mistakes so to combine all these people from different culture together to work as a team a proper training should be given by the manager. STARBUCKS COFFEE COMPANY Starbucks is a well-known coffee company, started in 1971 in Seattles pike place market, Washington. It was opened by Jerry Bolvin, Zev Siegi and Gordon Bowker, they started selling coffee, tea and spices. Now it has largely developed in such a way that it is functioning in 40 countries along with 16000 coffee outlets. Howard Schultz joins Starbucks in 1982. Once he went Italy, he visits Milans popular espresso bars and he was impressed with their popularity and culture and he sees their potency in Seattle. So after having lattes and mochas Seattle immediately becomes crazy for coffee. The thirst for good coffee allows Starbucks to develop their business out of Seattle too, first in the United States, and then further all countries. After becoming the first company to provide stock options to its part-time staff members, Starbucks become in public traded company. Starbucks opened their first shop in 1997, in UK. Starbucks form various products like hot made to order beverages, readym ade brewed coffee packets, tazo tea, bottled beverages, frappucino beverages, smoothies and baked goods like sandwiches, pastries cookies. There are so many organizations which still follow their mission, vision, value or culture like Starbucks use. Starbucks mission line says; to build Starbucks as the premier supplier of the best coffee in the world while managing their uncompromising precept as they develop and in other angle to pep up and nourish the human spirit-one person, one cup and one neighbourhood at a time. Starbucks vision is to make sky-high gratified guests by giving good service expenses that creates changes in guests day-to-day life. If the guest is unhappy, second time he might come with two more extra guests so that how it works for Starbucks. The anchor value in the feat of Starbucks is to make a company with a soul was that the organization would never give up searching the perfect cup of coffee. Hospitality management functions must be aware of the changing curves as the industry is confronting an ever increasing number of foreign employees are being used to fill these gaps which shows in increasing the diversity in the work place. The company working towards globalization of plenty food and beverage functions must also be cognizant of the diversity of various countries in which they operate. Diversity management must become aspect of organization policy in order to be effectual and it must be embedded within the culture of the organization from superior management through front line employees. Good diversity management can have many positive effects on performance of business such as good understanding of guest needs, higher staff keeping rate and increased sales. Ineffective diversity management can get added problems to the work place such as demoralization of staff, hostility and high employee turnover. To adopt diversity as an essential element in the way Starbucks work s. Starbucks conceive that to work successfully in the global market place diversity needs to be adopted within every facet of the business which includes, The workplace Training Suppliers Communities in which they operate The workplace- Starbucks loyalty to diversity starts with fascinating and holding a diverse work team. They try to mirror the guest and communities they serve which creates an environment where all the guest and partners feel prosperous and welcome. To attract a diverse representation of certified candidates, Starbucks connect with many local and national community based companies. As instance in U.S. they make connections with the National Black MBA and the Hispanic MBA and the women in food service firm. Starbucks supervise the demographics of their workforce on quarterly basis to identify whether they reflect the communities in which they work. They also focus on representation within particular positions and judge whether there are tract to higher-level positions. Based on available data, Starbucks US workforce is contained of 53% women and 14% people of colour and in Starbucks executive team vice presidents and above 42% are women and 8% people are of colour. Training diversity object is made through Starbucks general training and development module also management training courses. Diversity courses are also provided at Starbucks to address partners related to business requirements which include diversity learning journey and bias free interviewing workshops which train managers and recruiters for the hiring procedure. Starbucks take the hiring and recruiting process very gravely. They are very deliberate while employing people as it costs 2,300-3,000 pounds to recruit and prepare each staff member. By the period of two weeks of commencing employment all the staff member members will have undergone training and learning about the diversity amongst the employees and also amongst the guest base. Suppliers- Starbucks have developed a provider diversity first step which assures that each selected provider shares the companys core values to meet main requirements which include quality, service, value, stability and sound business practices. A diverse provider must meet certain criteria. As instance the company must be 62% owned, operated and managed by women, minorities or socially disadvantaged individuals. Diversity in communities in which Starbucks operate- Starbucks built a combine venture with Johnson Development Corporation which is owned by Earvin Johnson. They produced urban coffee opportunities, LLC bringing Starbucks shops to diverse communities. By 2003, there were 62 UCO places in the United States. Starbucks UCO shops provide communities an inviting and prosperous place for neighbours to gather. While guests are ensured a coherent Starbucks experience at all the shops they may find the music is tailored to local tastes, elusive differences in the food offerings and wall paintings that is unique to the shops. A UCO shop can be an accelerator for producing jobs and encouraging business development in the communities where the shops are situated. By the end of 2004 the locations employed 961 Starbucks partners. The Starbucks foundation and community and giving programmers provide support to non-profit organization that serves diverse communities. They are also partner with diff erent community organizations to provide employment opportunities to their elements. Cultural encounter happens when people from various cultures come into contact. Sometimes the encounter begins before anyone has a chance to properly introduce you before you even open your mouth. Cultural encounter can lead to world class fatigue or even depression. Many of the adjustments to life in the cultural fast lane must be made early on preventing a successful overseas experience. If we ask who suffers from cultural encounter the answer must be one who spends much time with people from another culture. People eat different foods, celebrate different holidays and dress differently in countries all around the world but these differences affect the ways in which people work together because people organize, manage and work differently from culture to culture. The behaviour of people in organizations varies across cultures in many ways. Researchers have observed systematic and culturally based differences in managers values, attitudes and behaviour. Each of us has a set of attit udes and beliefs through which we see management situations the managers value, attitudes and beliefs can affect cycles of behaviour. Some managers do not trust their subordinates and believe that employees will not do a good job unless closely supervised. These managers establish tight control systems such as time clocks and frequent employee observation to reassure them that employees are working. The employees can be started realizing that management does not trust them so they might start behaving irresponsibly. They arrive on time only when the time clock is in working condition and only work when the manager is around. So it is easy to see how misunderstanding and mistrust can grow between managers from one culture to employees from different culture. In hospitality business you can find many examples of cultural clash as you deal with guests all over the world and you work with different people from different countries with different culture as well. So I just want give to gi ve an example as per my experience in hospitality. Example- I used to work for a hospitality company, park Starbucks Goa resort and spa in India. Once I was in the bar in the afternoon and a Russian guest came to me. Russians hardly speak English. So he came to me and as he didnt know English he was indicating his finger outside towards tree and said kakushka, kakushka he was speaking in Russian and was trying to make me understand his language but as I didnt know Russian language I couldnt make out what he wants exactly so it took a long time to know me what he wants exactly but finally after 10 minutes I finally came to know that he was asking for coconut water and he was indicating his finger towards coconut trees. Then I gave him coconut water and he was very happy. So here we can see a culture clash between an Indian and Russian culture because the Russian hardly speak English so they couldnt communicate properly. So as a suggestion to this problem I would like to suggest that there must be a co-coordinator person in the hospitality company so that if this kind of communication problems due to different culture occurs he or she can handle it. Few managers are more effectual at leading diverse groups than other managers. The traits and behaviour should equip a person to lead diverse groups. Additionally, cultural sensitivity, cultural intelligence and certain specific global leadership skills are essential for inspiring people from cultures other than the ones own. Although they reinforce each other we can describe cultural sensitivity and cultural intelligence separately. Global leadership encompasses so many behaviours that they receive of their own section. Leaders as well as others who are attempting to influence a person from a foreign country must be alert to possible cultural differences. Thus the leader must be willing to acquire knowledge about local customs and learn to speak the native language at least passably. A cross- cultural leader must be patient, adaptable, flexible and willing to listen and learn. All of these characteristics are part of cultural sensitivity an awareness of and a willingness to investig ate the reasons why people belong to other culture act as they do. A person with cultural sensitivity will recognize the certain differences in customs that will help to build better relationships with people in his or her adopted cultures. Another aspect of cultural sensitivity is being tolerant of the subtle differences between cultures. Following is the leadership self assessment quiz which gives an opportunity to reflect our own tolerance for cross-cultural issues. LEADERSHIP SELF ASSESSMENT QUIZ Tolerance for cultural differences Instructions- indicate how comfortable you would feel in the following circumstances: VU- very uncomfortable U- Uncomfortable N- Neutral C- Comfortable VC- very comfortable VU U N C VC Working on a team with both men and women 1 2 3 4 5 Coaching a team or club when all the members are 1 2 3 4 5 Sex than yours Having a transsexual person as a boss. 1 2 3 4 5 Having a person of a different race as a boss. 1 2 3 4 5 Having an opposite sex person as a boss. 1 2 3 4 5 answers if a if you are heterosexual or b if you are homosexual Having a gay or lesbian boss Having a straight boss Having dinner with someone who eats what you consider to be a pet.1 2 3 4 5 Having dinner with someone who eats what you consider to be a repulsive animal or insect.1 2 3 4 5 Working alongside a teammate who you know is HIV positive. 1 2 3 4 5 Working alongside a teammate who has served prison time for 1 2 3 4 5 Vehicular homicide. Total score: Scoring and interpretation: 40-50: you are highly tolerant and flexible in terms of working with a broad spectrum of people. These attitudes can help you to be an effective multicultural leader. 21-39: your tolerance for working with people different from yourself is within the average range. It you learn to become a more tolerant of differences, you are more likely to become an effective multicultural leader. 10-20: you may be experiencing difficulties in working with people quite different from yourself. As a consequence your effectiveness as a multicultural leader might be hampered. If you seek out more diverse cross-cultural experiences you are likely to become more tolerant of differences. Cultural sensitivity helps a person to become a multicultural worker that why cultural sensitivity is very important. Such an individual is convinced that all cultures are equally good and enjoys learning about other cultures. Multicultural workers and leaders are the people who usually have been exposed to more than one culture in childhood. Being multicultural helps one to be accepted by a person from another culture. It has been said that a multilingual salesperson can explain the advantages of a product in other languages but it takes a multicultural person to motivate foreigners to buy. Cultural intelligence is a four dimensional framework rooted in many years of research on intelligence and cross cultural interaction. After going through the above practices implemented in order to improve leaders cross culture intelligence I suggest the effective approaches in improving CQ are as follows. CQ drive CQ knowledge CQ strategy CQ action All these four dimensions are usually refer to develop CQ. CQ drive- the motivational dimension of CQ is the leaders level of interest, drive and energy to adapt cross culturally. You should have the confidence and drive to work through the challenges and conflicts that inevitably accompany cross cultural work. The ability to be personally engaged and preserve through cross cultural challenges is one of the most novel and important aspects of cultural intelligence. We cannot simply assume people who are interested and motivated to adjust to cultural differences. Employees often approach diversity training apathetically and do it just because it is required. Personnel headed to international assignments are often more concerned about moving and adjusting their families overseas than they are about developing cultural understanding. Without ample motivation, there is little point in spending time and money on cross cultural training. CQ drive includes three sub dimensions: Intrinsic motivation- the degree to which you derive enjoyment from culturally diverse situations Extrinsic motivation- the tangible benefits you gain from culturally diverse experiences and Self efficacy- the confidence that you will be effective in a cross cultural encounter. All three of these motivational dynamics play an important role in hoe leaders approach cross cultural situations. CQ knowledge- the cognitive dimension of the CQ research refers to the leaders knowledge about culture and its role in following how business is done. You should understand the way culture shapes thinking and behaviour. It also includes your overall understanding of how cultures vary from one another. CQ knowledge includes two sub dimensions i.e. cultural systems and cultural norms and values. Cultural systems are the way societies organize themselves to meet the basic needs of their members. For example, every nation has cultural systems for how its members distribute products and services or for how they raise their children. Understanding how a family system works might seem unnecessary but it become critically relevant when you are trying to develop human resource policies for employees who are expected to care for the senior members of their extended family. The other sub dimension of CQ knowledge i.e. cultural norms and values refers to the varying ways cultures approach issues such as time, authority and relationships. The value a culture places on time and relationship becomes highly closely connected when an American is trying to get a signed contract from a potential affiliate in china or Saudi Arabia where different norms shape leaders expectations. CQ knowledge is the dimension most often emphasized in many approaches to intercultural competency. For example, a large and growing training and consulting industry focuses on teaching leaders this kind of cultural knowledge. Although valuable however the knowledge coming from CQ knowledge has to be combined with the other three dimensions of CQ or its relevance to the real demands of leadership is questionable and potentially harmful. CQ strategy- is the metacognitive dimension of the CQ. It is the leaders ability to strategize when crossing cultures. Can we slow down the RPMs long enough to carefully observe what is going on inside the mind of others and ourselves? It is the ability to draw upon our cultural understanding to solve culturally complex problems. CQ strategy helps a leader to use cultural knowledge to plan an appropriate strategy accurately interpret what is going on and check to see if expectations are accurate or need revision. The three sub dimensions of CQ strategy are awareness, planning and checking. Awareness means being informed of what is going on in ourselves and others. Planning is taking time to prepare for a cross cultural encounter in anticipating how to approach the people, topic and situation. Checking is monitoring our interaction to see if our plans and expectations were appropriate. It is also comparing what we expected with our actual experience. CQ strategy emphasizes strategy an d is the keystone between understanding cultural issues and actually being able to use our understanding to be more effective. CQ action- the behavioural dimension of CQ is the leaders ability to act appropriately in the range of cross cultural situations. We can effectively accomplish our performance goals in different cultural situations. One of the most important aspects of CQ action is knowing when to adapt to another culture and when not to do so. A person with high CQ learns which actions will and will not enhance effectiveness and acts on that understanding. Thus CQ action involves flexible actions tailored to specific cultural contexts. The sub dimensions of CQ action are verbal actions, nonverbal actions and speech acts. The exact words and phrases we use when we communicate specific types of messages. These are the three kinds of behaviours where there is the greatest need to adapt to cultural norms. Although the demands of today are intercultural settings make it impossible to master all the dos and donts of various cultures. There are certain behaviours that should be modified when we interact wi th different cultures. For example, westerners need to learn the importance of carefully studying business cards presented by those from most Asian contexts. Also some basic verbal and nonverbal behaviour enhance the extent to which we are seen as being effective by others. As an example, the verbal tone(e.g. loud versus soft) in which words are spoken can convey different meaning across cultures. Almost every approach to cross cultural work has insisted on the importance of flexibility. With CQ action we now have a way of exploring how to enhance our flexibility. Research, examples and best practices will be offered to move toward gaining the capabilities represented by these four dimensions. The CQS (cultural intelligence scale) measures competency in each of the four dimensions. Through a series of questions you receive four scores one for each dimension of cultural intelligence. By averaging these four scores together, you can estimate your overall CQ. Two different CQ assessments are available both of which have relevance for improving leadership effectiveness. One is a self report assessment and the other is a peer report assessment. The self assessment provides a profile of how you view yourself in the four dimensions of cultural intelligence. The peer assessment asks you to identify three to five peers who can answer a few questions on your behalf. In return you receive a composite of how your peers view you in the four dimensions of cultural intelligence the two kinds of assessment are most valuable when used together so you can compa re your self assessment with how others perceive your cultural intelligence. There is variety of ways to apply the four dimensions of cultural intelligence to leadership. They can be used as four areas to assess individuals you are considering for a cross cultural assignment. They can also serve as four categories for diversity training or for a leaders personal development plan and the four dimensions can be used as a four step cycle for developing cultural intelligence in the case by case situations. This four step cycle is the primary application used. CQ is more strongly related to an individuals overall performance cross culturally than things like academic achievement or an exceptional IQ. In particular CQ drive, CQ strategy and CQ action are found to have a positive relationship on an individuals success in accomplishing a task. CONCLUSION In the above research it shows that the management is confronting number of challenges problems as an increasing number of foreign employees are being used which results in the diversity in the work place. So the Company must be cognizant of the diversity of various countries in which they work. In order to keep up this diversity management must become a part of organization policy because an effectual diversity management can have many positive consequences on performance of business. So in order to defeat this Starbucks consider that to work successfully in the global market place diversity requires to be adopted within every angle of the business which includes the work place, training , suppliers and the communities in which they operate. Starbucks loyalty to diversity starts with fascinating and holding a diverse work team. They try to mirror the guest and communities they serve which make an environment where all the guests and partners feel prosperous and welcome. Diversity c ontent is constructs through Starbucks general training development modules also management training courses. Starbucks have developed a provider diversity first step which assures that each selected provider shares the companys anchor values to meet main requirements which include quality, service, value, stability and sound business practices. Starbucks has also built a combined venture with Johnson Development Corporation and they have produced urban coffee opportunities, LLC bringing Starbucks shops to diverse communities. Although Starbucks try to control diversity problem at workplace, cultural encounter still happens when people from various cultures come into contact. A person who spends much time with people from different culture suffers the most. The behaviour of people in company varies across cultures in many ways. Some managers are good at leading diverse groups than other. The traits and behaviour should fit a person to lead diverse groups. Cultural sensitivity, cultu ral intelligence and certain specific global leadership skills are essential for motivating people from various cultures. The leadership self assessment quiz can be very helpful in avoiding cross cultural issues in an organization. Cultural sensitivity is also important as it helps a person to become a multicultural worker and cultural intelligence is a four dimensional framework rooted on intelligence and cross cultural interaction. So in order to improve leaders cross culture intelligence, the effective approaches in improving CQ should be CQ drive, CQ knowledge, CQ strategy and CQ action. From the above research it is been clear that CQ drive, CQ knowledge, CQ strategy and CQ action are found to have a positive relationship on an individuals success in accomplishing a task. The CQ is a set of individual capabilities that allows leaders to learn from their experiences. Thus CQ facilitates the transformation of experience into experimental training. A mere exposure to cultural diversity and international assignments does not necessarily enhance learning. Instead leaders must balance the creative tension of all four stages in the experimental process which are concrete experiences, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation. I would like to recommend that organizations should shift their focus from providing experience to ensuring that effective experimental learning occurs for leaders. Part of this shift requires the recognition that individuals have different capabilities to learn from their experiences. They both make great companions and we here, they both play an important role in our life. The real subject I would like to point out is who's actually a better friend? I believe man's best friends are more true than their human counterpart because you can trust them.Try to question yourself, who's the one who will always be there when your in trouble, sad or sick? I'm not trying to say that all friends aren't as loyal as our pet, but it's arduous to find a friend that's as dedicated to only you no matter what. If you ever do have a friend that's as loyal, appreciate that person and treasure it because it's as rare as getting hit by lightning. Who is your best friend? My opinion, the answer is: a person that reflects yourself while looking in the mirror.Having a best friend is the best feeling in the world, it's like they are a pa rt of you in a way that's truly hard to explain until you find it. A best friend is someone you spend the majority of your time with because they have the most common with you. They will attend all the activities you both share the love for. Your dog won't be able to compete with that the majority of the time, but when you get home they will be waiting for you with the tail wagging acting like he or she hasn't seen you in years.Koski 2 I would like to look at the advantages of Man's best friend, No arguments or drama, there is never a hidden agenda in being your friend. It's pure Loyalty and Love for you as who you are, not what you have or what you can give materially. All the dog want's is a little attention and most of all love. Everything is so pure with them, there is absolutely no stress involved, which in this day and age is a rarity. There is no competition, no acting like your somebody your not to please anyone, they simply don't care. You can be who and what you are all the time. It doesn't matter if your wearing off brand clothes, your hair isn't done or you only have a penny to your name, the love is always there. There is never a awkward moment either, you can play with them for awhile and when your done, they are. It's a simple living with Man's Best Friend, although there is no verbal interaction from their side it's as if they are talking to you by the look on their face and their tail wagging.I guess this is the time to hit on the advantages of having a Best Friend, this is tough for me because all to often a friend has let me down. The great thing about having a best friend is human interaction, watching and going to a sporting events together, going on trips and creating memories that will last a life time. Asking for advice during tough times and giving it as well. Friends are self efficient, you don't have to feed them or care for them, they don't rely on you 100% for their well being Arjun Mcnamarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00344021932280896310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151861441356017834.post-35288320346750689732020-01-09T13:55:00.001-08:002020-01-09T13:55:02.752-08:00Steve Jobs Essay - 4 Is Study - 1513 Words Nathan Girard 9/27/2011 Is Steve Jobs a Leader or a Manager? Children especially face obesity at a young age due to many cases. Children are more likely face obesity if their parents, for example, eat fast food or processed goods. However, is the school lunch program a huge factor into childrenââ¬â¢s obesity? Schools can either provide only healthy foods or allow unhealthy options. In some cases, going healthy means they go into debt, or they can choose to allow unhealthy options and generate revenue. Schools lose money daily because it costs more money to prepare meals than the reimbursement they get from the federal government. Children are better off eating what they are surrounded by. If children are surrounded by home made fresh prepared meals, they are more likely to choose healthier options from that day on. To achieve this, many school districts fail and succeed to create a healthier environment for children. The problem in society today factors in with childhood obesity. 15% of US children and teenagers are overweight, which is tripled the rate of 35 years ago. Kids are exposed to false advertising of unhealthy food which leads them to consume more of it. A survey shows that scarcely any school-age children and adolescents meet all the standards for a sound diet. Some factors that trigger a childââ¬â¢s obesity can include a childââ¬â¢ diet. Case Study Assessment of Angling Experience Question 1: Define and discuss using relevant example from the case, the special characteristics of services that distinguish them from tangible products. Services are one type of products with several special characteristics which are really different with tangible products. The major special features of services are more intangibility, heterogeneity, inseparability, and perishability. We will write a custom essay sample on Case Study Assessment of Angling Experience or any similar topic only for you Order Now Those characteristics are also reflected in Johnââ¬â¢s case. 1. 1 Intangibility Compare with the tangible productsââ¬â¢ tangibility, the main characteristic of services is intangibility which was shown through a set of actions. Intangibility characteristic of service describes that services cannot be seen, felt, tasted, or touched thus one cannot display or store the service. However, it is usually felt by tangible goods or physical evidence. Moreover, service cannot be inventoried, easily patented, and easily displayed or communicated. From Johnââ¬â¢s case, John gives his customers guide of fishing and a series of fishing itinerary. These all are the intangible things to anglers. It cannot be touched, felt, or seen by his customers. However, his customers enjoyed their tours and gain fishes after his guiding. Thus, this can be said that customers got Johnââ¬â¢s services. Compared with his services business, John used to be selling the tangible goods, either the rods, artificial flies or oilskins the department sold are tangible. Moreover, because of the intangibility, pricing Johnââ¬â¢s services is difficult. Compared with physical goods, pricing services are not easy. Same tangible goods also sold with a same price. In this case, the two couples got different price after serviced. It seems that they gained a same series of services, but the feelings and appraisals are different. 1. 2 Heterogeneity Heterogeneity concerns the potential for high variability in the performance of services (Bitner et al. , 2009). Contrast to service, tangible goods is standardization. Most of a type of physical goods is produced by one product line. There are no major differences among each one of them. However, like two leaves, there are not two same services processes. Providersââ¬â¢ performances are not same every time, and the customersââ¬â¢ requirements are not same too. In detail, service delivery and customer satisfaction depend on employee and customer action, and also some uncontrollable factors. In our case, when John worked in the fishing department, he wondered at how each piece of fishing equipment in a product line varied so little. It shows that tangible products are standardization. However, then, John provided services to two couples, and got the distinct result. First couple was very satisfaction, and second couple was unhappy, though John was same hard working. The different based knowledge, objectives and nature conditions determines the different results. The first couple have a good knowledge and experience of fishing, they enjoy in fishing. However, the second couple was the fist time fishing and their purpose was to relax and see the country. Moreover, the weather was great during the first time, but worst during the second time. Those factitious and uncontrollable elements influenced Johnââ¬â¢s two services processes. 1. 3 Inseparability Inseparability of production and consumption involves the simultaneous production and consumption which characterizes most services. Compare with goods are first produced, then purchased, and then consumed, services are first booked, then produced and consumed simultaneously (Carmen Langeard, 1980). It seems like that customers and employees affect each other. In this case, we can know that because of the high degree of adaptability of the first couple, John interact well with them. However, another two anglers gained the unsatisfied service because of their bad communication. All customers and employees even the partial customers play an important role in whole process because servicesââ¬â¢ inseparability. Furthermore, because of this feature of services, mass production is difficult. The production and consumption are simultaneous. Hence, John lost a group of anglers in December due to he cannot service two groups in a same time. 1. 4 Perishability The final characteristic of service is perishable. Tangible goods could be stocked, contrast by services cannot be saved, stores, resold or returned (Valarie Dwayne, 2009). In this case, John used to promoted departmentââ¬â¢s inventory system and just keep the rod that can be sold later. It shows that physical goods can be stored. However, John can not saved his services and provide it later. So, he lost a group of customers in December. Hence, the service is very different with the tangible goods. By these characteristics, some problems are discussed next question. Question 2: Explain, using examples how the problems stemming from the special characteristics of services are impacting on Johnââ¬â¢s guiding services. 2. 1 In General Due to the four characteristics of services, some problems are derived. Some problems are unavoidable and some of them can be avoidable. The problems generate from intangibility including hardly controlling, easy to be copied and unable to evaluate the quality. Heterogeneity causes problem about quality measurement. Inseparability not allows mass production of service. Moreover, perishability makes return or resold of service impossible. Several of these problems impact on Johnââ¬â¢s guiding service as well. 2. 2 Problems Created by Intangibility Intangibility shows the following marketing problems. Firstly, services cannot be stored, thus when requires reach the peak or foot it is hard for managers to control. Secondly, services are so difficult to be patented that it is convenient for its competitors to duplicate them. Thirdly, customers are not able to realize the quality of service because service is invisible and cannot be touched. Johnââ¬â¢s new guiding service is not easy to store. Thereof, during December there was a peak period of fly fishing and John are not qualified to provide efficient service. On contrary, in the next two week of November there were no customers visiting Tasmania for chasing trout. Since John provides guiding service, he cannot remove Decemberââ¬â¢s service to November. It is beyond the scope of his control. The guiding service that John operates is easy to be imitated. There is another fishing guide who ran in Launceston. The service it provides is similar with Johnââ¬â¢s. This is a threat to John. The market share for John in Australia is cut down. Furthermore, the feature of intangibility determines the service value is hard to be understood by consumers. Johnââ¬â¢s guiding service is not an exceptional. Customers have no idea what a guiding service is. The marketing manager of a large sporting equipment retailer in North America would not know what a guiding service is if John did not send him the information about this service. 2. 3 Problems Created by Heterogeneity The most severe challenge that heterogeneity creates is difficulty of quality measurement. Since criteria for judging the quality of service is based on customersââ¬â¢ notion, managers are not possible to control it. In the case, there was an American couple who are both good anglers. They have more fishing experience than John. In this trip, John learned more from this experience and the couple also had a great time. They even pre-booked another two weeks for the next fishing season. It is just because the American couple thought this trip was so wonderful that they measured this service is worthwhile. However by November, the Canadianââ¬â¢s week of trout fishing is no that smooth. It became less happy because of lacking experience of fly fishing causes few landed trout and entire week raining. Even worse, one of the customers sprained an ankle. In these two events John provided the same service however he received different results. John cannot ensure whether his supplies are original. In December John introduced the New Zealanders to another fishing guide in Launceston. This increased the chance of heterogeneity because different suppliers are not possible to offer the exactly the same services. Take the health industry for instance. Several suppliers provide a same kind of service, nevertheless consumersââ¬â¢ perception is different. Some customers consider it as good service whereas another do not satisfied with it. This is because different providerââ¬â¢s service is distinctive due to the nature of human beings. 2. 4 Problems Created by Inseparability According to Zeithaml, Dwayne and Gremeler, because services often are produced and consumed at the same time, mass production is difficult (2009). The service producers generate service and the service is consumed by customer at the same time, therefore service is impossible to be produced in large amount. The consumers who John received accepted his service while he provided it. It is absurd that John created services such as airport picking up and dropping off first then the customers enjoyed them. For example, the helicopter sent an urgent fax to John informed him that they were not available until after mid-February. It frustrated John that he was not able to transport his clients to the best fishing area. In addition, for John it is inconvenient for him when he has several customers to pick up or drop off. It is typical in November, John received two contacts that require a fly fishing in the first week of December. The worse thing is that neither of the customers could change their original arrangement. John could not separate his services. 2. 5 Problems Created by Perishability The factor of perishability leads to the problem that service cannot be returned. Service is consumed at the same time when it is manufactured, thereby once the service is provided it cannot be returned or resold. In November, two Canadian customers who were doing fishing for relax received an unhappy experience. Lacking experience of fly fishing they landed few trout. The entire weekââ¬â¢s heavy raining prevented them from lake fishing. Moreover, one of the anglers sprained an ankle while crossing wet rocks. Even though John understood that the Canadian did not enjoy their fishing trip, he had no way to go back. John cannot take the service back because time cannot be reversed. For instance, customers who have an ugly haircut cannot ask the barber to undo it, because the service of haircut is perished (Clemes, 2002). 2. 6 Problems Difficult to Avoid Due to the problems derived above, gaps generate naturally. Customer Gap Customer gap appears because of the distance between customersââ¬â¢ expectation and perception. Customers have their own expectations based on their experience and objectives. In this case, the Canadian customer who came to Australia for relax do not have the experience of fly fishing. They consider the service could offer them a wonderful time. However, the insufficient experience of fishing made them catch few trout. Adding the bad weather and the injury, the Canadian dissatisfied with the trip and request a reduced charge. This gap is relatively huge and John needs to improve his service. Provider Gap Firstly, John serves his customer by the same way. For the fishing skillful couple and unskillful people, John took the same measure. Secondly, John not communicated well with its customers. The customers who chose his service in the first week of December were transferred to another service provider. The problems presented above are the major reason why Johnââ¬â¢s business went down. In conclusion, because of the special features of service, there are several problems should be considered and solved. Marketers of services face some actual and distinctive challenges which should be solved by the utilization of marketing mix. Question 3: Explain how John could use the extended marketing mix elements to help manage the problems caused by the special characteristics of services. The question 2 mentioned some problems caused by the special characteristics of service. Marketers like John could use the marketing mix to manage those problems and plan a whole strategy of their business. The traditional marketing mix will help John to manage the problem from production, place, promotion, and price (Kotler Armstrong, 2006). Because of intangibility characteristic and the limitations of Johnââ¬â¢s service, he can add both tangible products and services in his business. For example, he could be the agent between his customers and fishing departments. Then, customers can purchase fishing equipments which are fit to them, because John known them clearly. Moreover, due to intangible and perishability of service, Johnââ¬â¢s promotion ways are not enough. John can exploit more methods like put some advertising in the relevant websites, sponsor fishing competitions and some things like that. However, because of the distinct features of service, the traditional marketing mix can not cover all problems. It extended three more elements which are people, physical evidence, and process (Booms Bitner, 1981) . 1 People People element is defined as all human actors who play a part in service delivery and thus influence the buyerââ¬â¢s perceptions in the service environment. Thus, customers, employees, and the customers in the service environment all play the important roles (Bitner et al. , 2009). With use this element, John can do following things to mana ge those problems. First, because John just has himself as an employee, he lost some opportunities. Then, John need employ more employees to help him supporting his business. After that, because guiding service is a high skill service, John should train his employees. John also can bring a reward system based on the satisfaction of employees to avoid the problems of service quality. Another role, customers, also draws marketersââ¬â¢ attention. Marketers should education their customers before provide service. Because guiding service need customersââ¬â¢ deeper involvement, John could send a video of basic knowledge and potential risk of his services to his customers. Then, they can interact better. 3. 2 Physical evidence Physical evidence is the cue that customers depend on to assess the quality of service and service providers to put forth their significant information (Lovelock, 2004). As Johnââ¬â¢s guiding service, it already had some physical evidence. However, there are still some limitations as mentioned before. Firstly, John needs to increase all kinds of materials that reflect his guided trip. Thus, customers will maximally understand his service. For example, John should enrich his website. He could upload some videos about guided fishing trips. Potential customers can be divided into two sections as experienced customer and inexperienced customer. For those experienced customers, the information should be about new fishing areas or new activities. For the inexperienced customers, it should provide skills or equipment for fishing. Secondly, it is suggested that John needs to have his own transporting vehicles to send customers. One side is to avoid the situation of lacking hiring sources, the other side is to fit different customersââ¬â¢ need. For instance, if the customers who require a short trip then John could provide them cars to go fishing. Sometimes, customers have their vocation that they get plenty of time sailing is a perfect option. Furthermore, for these long distance customers and money is not a problem for them aeroplane is chosen to send them to the best fishing area. In this way, the customer gap could be narrowed since their needs are fulfilled. Lastly, John could provide some souvenir after trips. Thus, customers may actually realize what they have obtained from the service. 3. 3 Process Process is the actual procedures, mechanisms, and flow of activities by which the service is delivered (Zeithaml, Bitner Gremler, 2009). John could use blueprint to depict the service process. By using the blueprint, John may find out the customer segmentation. For example, John may categorize consumers as experienced ones and inexperienced ones. Then John could offer two different processes for each group. For the experienced ones, John could present a more customized process which customers could choose their favorite rod and apply their own ways of fishing. As for the immature consumers, John should provide them a standardized process. It may offer the same rod for customers and consumers have to stay in a specified area. John also needs to educate his customers especially the inexperienced customers. He could hire a fishing coach to instruct anglers the procedure of fishing. Through this way, unskillful clients will not fish blindly. 3. 4 Conclusion Service as intangible products distinguishes from physical goods. Besides the traditional four Ps, the three Ps are mainly used to enhance service. Johnââ¬â¢s guiding service may become prosperous if he makes use of the three Ps. Word Count: 2496 Reference List 1. Answer: Introduction Ernest Cline in his Ready player one novel creates the framework of ethical conduct and realistic pattern of working towards the virtual reality system based on OASIS. His interest towards the game had compelled him to focus on the imaginary world based on virtual reality concept. In his novel he focuses on the political and social issues which are faced by the common people with the growth of technological advancement. The people are giving their crucial time to the world of virtual reality so as to keep them away from the problematic situation of the real world scenario. The innovation in the trend and technology has transformed our way of living and its associated requirement but are acquired with many social and political issues. The Ready Player one by Ernest cline is the novel which is represented to develop a scenario of real world by using interactive techniques of technology. Description In his novel, he focuses on the use technological innovation and how these innovations affect the social and political life of the common people. The use of advanced technology has changed the living standard of the people which has a direct effect on their social life. In the real world scenario, the people are facing many problems due to the increasing growth rate of population at global level. The adverse effect of increasing population results in difficulty for the management of basic needs such as food, shelter, and energy. The overgrazing and the cutting of trees have increased the temperature at global level. The people use to prefer sitting at their home and spent their leisure time in virtual reality world of games. The use of advanced technology helps in developing an ethical and social relationship between the real world and virtual world (Cline). The technological advancement has opened the door of social and political issues because the people have lost their interest in solving the community problems since they want to give peace to their mind. The people are getting attracted towards the world of imagination as it gives level of comfort and peace to their mind and keep them away from the problems, issues, and challenges which the people face to carry over their day to day activities. Conclusion With the growing rate of technology, the working on the real world is decreasing and working on the virtual world is increasing simultaneously. The people do not want to look into the ill condition of the common people therefore they spent their time in gaming activities and live the world of imagination. The people want to spend their time in the world of their imagination because they dont want to look on the problems in social and political issues of the real world. The creation of imagination world creates excitement in student to become the part of the virtual world and learn new process through interactive medium because the student gets an opportunity to express their inner talent and skills. It has a capacity of 940 students in total and it shifted to its present location in 2004. Currently, the school provides nearly 170 courses to its students. The courses offered comprise of four key programs in:Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Program Evaluation Proposal for Schools in Ontario specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Tourism and hospitality Horticulture Transportation Construction Strategic Goals To stop cyber bullying among the students and the community at large To promote a positive school climate To assist in the improvement of academic performance of students Overview Cyber bullying denotes the self-willed and constant application of computers, mobile phones, or any other electronic communication gadgets to disturb and terrorize others. Some of the methods employed in cyber bullying include Instant me ssaging, electronic mails, and fake messages on web sites. Information technologies came with challenges to those who rely on them to accomplish their chores (McDavid Hawthorn, 2006). Although information technology has sufficient benefits to the learning processes, it poses challenges that would lead to depression and harm to some students (Hunter, 2012). Harassment and depression within a learning institution leads to low performance. Therefore, it is crucial for every learning institution to establish strategies to discourage cyber bullying and curb the threat of failure related to information technology. For these reasons, as a teacher at St Michael High School in Canada and workplace educator, I developed a plan to discourage and curb cyber bullying in the learning institutions. In a bid to fulfill this task, I have used this proposal to present a systematic approach for problem resolution. The proposal displays a strategy involved in resolving the problem. To start with, the students are provided with ways of reporting their concern to the educational institution, and when the staff members of the institution receive the report, they evaluate the information together with the parent or guardian. The evaluation classifies the case in different categories that could be addressed in distinct ways. If the case is not cyber bullying, it is addressed in other ways. When the reported case is determined as cyber bullying, the staff members take a process of investigating by collecting evidences to support the allegation. When the school rules and regulations are violated, further institutional measures are addressed in the case. Performance of educational institutions determines their success (Hunter, 2012). Preventing cyber bullying is one way of sealing the holes that weaken the learning process through distracting the conscience of students.Advertising Looking for essay on education? The individuals involved with the institution will be familiar with the program and aware about the rules enacted to reduce it. Positive school climate Counseling personnel Distribution of the regulation materials The school will admit more students than the previous times. Students will be reluctant to comply with the program direction. Excellence for all Bullying report system Assessing cyber bullying at the initial stages of the program by use of questionnaires The school will be exposed to many achievements in many fields. For instance, improvements could be made in sports. Students who practice cyber bullying will face dire consequences while those affected by the bullying will receive justice and contentment. Overall rejection of digital abuse Regulation implementation documents Reception of cyber bullying reports and provision of the reporting documents The academic performance of the school will appreciate. The performance of the school will improve due to less stresses and depressions associated to cyber bullying activities. Economic growth of a country Inputs Learning institutions must identify substantive strategies to eradicate cyber bullying. Low school performances are associated with depression resulting f rom cyber bullying (Hunter, 2012). Peopleââ¬â¢s conscience works properly when there are no pressures exerted on the mind. However, a stressed mind causes low activity, which results to low performances (McDavid, Hawthorn, 2006). In order to perform well, students must remain within the learning process without distraction of the mind. Therefore, institutions must identify and establish strategies to assist in discouraging and eliminating cyber bullying in the learning institution. When working to achieve this objective, it is crucial to identify the resources required to make the process successful. The following are the identified resources. Statement Form(s) This is an official document to indicate that a student was bullied through modern information technology and it keeps records coupled with approving the bully if the student fails in his or her exams. It could be a form to enter the required information such as the studentââ¬â¢s name, his/her age, and the suspected pe rson among other details. The form should comprise of a studentââ¬â¢s signature to prove that the student had recorded the information personally. Counseling Personnel In the attempt to facilitate low cases of cyber bullying in the institution, students should be guided about proper behaviors (Trolley Hanel, 2010). They should be aware of the repercussions of failure to obey school guidelines. When they are convinced that the action deteriorates the school and personal performances, they would change their actions against the biased practices. Therefore, we will require counselors to assist us with logistical approaches of mitigating the risk. The counselors will discourage cyber bullying utterly and ensure that a significant number of students change their attitudes on the problem. Bullying Report System Efficient strategies to counter cyber bullying must consider effective reporting system (Kowalski et al., 2008). In some cases, student could be bullied and fear to face the st aff. However, some strategies could involve a confidential approach especially in sexual harassment, which requires the institution to determine the strategies of implementing confidential reporting system.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Program Evaluation Proposal for Schools in Ontario specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More For instance, the students can submit the claims through the Internet or submit their filled forms through a confidential mailing box. These ways improve the standards of fighting cyber bullying at a high percentage since it ensure that many people are free to report. Studentââ¬â¢s Enlightenment Awareness of the control strategies should be well known to the students. Therefore, it is vital to print materials that contain the procedures of action and the repercussions among other information that may be relevant to students. This document should act as the reference point for the studentâ⬠â¢s enlightenment. Therefore, the document should contain rules and impacts of violation. Activities Strategic implementation of the processes that aim at reducing cyber bullying relies on proper arrangement of the activities. When we identify concise activities, we improve the chances of evaluating the constituents without leaving some unattended. Therefore, it is necessary to identify what should be performed to support the system effectively. According to McDavid and Hawthorn (2006), proper organization is the stem of high performance. For this reason, program constituents must be organized to warrant successful results. Identifying and planning the activities are ways of ensuring program organization. Therefore, I will evaluate the program to determine the areas that require the establishment of the following activities. Information Dispersion It is crucial to create awareness and a strong foundation when the program initiates. Otherwise, if the pace of the program seems weak a t the initial stages, students might assume or ignore the seriousness of the issue. The administration must be ready to enforce the program into action. Probably, it can arrange for a meeting with parents/guardians, students, and staff. This meeting could target on enlightening them about the program and warning those who bully others about the impacts of their actions. Materials Distribution The implementation of the program must consider planning how program materials will reach the intended people. One way of distributing the materials is by supplying them during the meeting mentioned in the previous paragraph. In this way, parents/guardians will have copies of the program details.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Students can receive copies of the materials in classes. This activity of distributing the materials will warrant that the entire school is aware of the restriction made by the administration, which will lead to low cases of cyber bullying and high performance in school. Initial Assessment The other activity will involve assessing the level of cyber bullying in the school. It could be done by using questionnaires to assess bullying incidences. The questionnaires can be presented to students during class proceedings. The school management has to evaluate its steps and actions to prevent the emergence of fatal consequences (Andras, 2011). Therefore, it is vital to evaluate its status before handling new cases. Reception and Provision of Materials Once the three steps are performed, materials that will be used to report new cases can be made available to students. The materials could be statement forms that students will fill information of the bullying cases they have experienced. Aft er filling, students will return the forms to a discipline department where appropriate measures will be enacted. Outputs When a program is well established, it should provide allowances to return what was invested during its initiation (McDavid Hawthorn, 2006). I expect a number of outputs that will have advantages to the school proceedings. These outputs will provide the school with opportunities to expand and develop at a fast rate. Evaluating the output is crucial in enlightening the administration about the potential parts of the program. Possibly, the administration will consider enacting the program due to its outputs. Investments that are meant to establish a program should have some returns. In my case, I will identify the long-term outputs of the program by listing the outputs and giving their description. School Popularity Educational institutions that have unique qualities tend to become popular and enroll high numbers of students. If the institution will flourish succe ssfully, it will be an opportunity to expand into higher levels in the education sector. Therefore, the institution might become popular and bring many advantages with it. High Intakes of New Student The number of school admissions can rely on the category and familiarity of the school. When a school is popular, it tends to draw more students for admission. Therefore, I expect higher intakes than in the previous periods. Achievement Low cyber bullying results to significant achievements in the educational institutions (Hunter, 2012). Therefore, many achievements will be made due to the program. For instance, when the number of students increases, there will be facilitation of the sports sector. Some students will have qualities to play games, which will provide human resources during competition with other playing groups or schools. Additionally, sports department will be funded to buy resources since the school will have attained high economies of scale. Desire could be the driving force that will lead this program to achieve prosperity. Percentage Increase in Performance Performance of the students will appreciate, which will establish an incredible foundation for students in their future endeavors. This output will boost confidence of students in the learning institution. In return, the aspect will lead to the school establishment since performance is the root to popularity. Outcomes The goal of establishing a program to fight and reduce cyber bullying was to improve the performance of the institution. The outcomes of initiation and establishment of the program will be positive or negative. The management of a learning institution must evaluate its activities and proceeding to ensure that the studentââ¬â¢s education is not affected (Andras, 2011). The administration should check the outcomes of the school proceedings. In my cases, I will evaluate the possible outcomes that could result from program evaluation. Identification of the results will arm the a dministrator into understanding the techniques of handling issue arising due to the program. The following is a list of possible outcomes and their effects in the school environment. Awareness and Familiarity Students, parents/guardians, and teachers will be aware of the program, which will result in holding of meeting with them. Additionally, students and parents will familiarize with the rules and regulations set to regulate the problem, which will lead to further guidance of the problem by the parents. These incidences will thus mark a continuous control for some time. The tradition of cyber bullying will be expected to transform into an action that students cannot practice within the school. When new students join the institution, they will learn the behavior of students who joined earlier and avoid bullying. Reluctance to Comply Hunter (2012) speculates that some individual bully others as a norm. They feel that they cannot change from it. Accepting changes is usually an issue of discussion, which is worse in cases where students are bound to change their strategies drastically. In this case, it could be expected that many student will be caught and punished during the initial stage when they have not adapted to the new program. Repercussions and Justice The students who do not comply with the regulations will face the consequences of their actions. The victims of bullying will report their cases to the authority, and the case will be assessed according to the flowchart and the respective repercussions will be enacted. High Performance The targeted expectation will also be one of the outcomes. I expect the school to have fewer cases of depression. Disrupted minds have low activity and thus lead to low perception. Undisrupted minds have high perception and can lead to high performance (McDavid and Hawthorn, 2006). High performance will cause higher intakes in the school. Impact Students who encountered cyber bullying (the victims as well as the culprits) e xperienced a poorer school climate when compared to the ones who had not been involved in cyber bullying. Students that have been involved in cyber bullying did not enjoy schooling, did not feel secure at school, or did not consider that their teachers were of help to them (Smith et al., 2008). When cyber bullying is stopped and no student is affected, the outcome will be a positive school climate. Excellence for all The possible impact of school transformation to create perfect learning situations and excellent academic results will signify a total renovation of the education structure in affected countries to ensure that students get the chance and capacity to excel to their maximum ability. Overall rejection of digital abuse Providing students with schemes to stop cyber bullying will ultimately assist in curbing any form of digital abuse by all. Everyone will keep off from digital abuse and new media of cyber bullying will be screened as they come up. Economic growth of a country Stopping cyber bullying will initially begin as a process of individual change and progressively involve all the students. Since students will ultimately excel in their studies, they will stand high chances of getting white-collar jobs (Smith et al., 2008). When they are supported in their capability to advance inventiveness and active contribution in their respective societies, the overall impact will be economic growth of a country. Use of Evaluation Results The results of the evaluation will be used in assessing the following. The academic performance of the students since the education against cyber bullying Whether the partnership between the school and the parents was effective or there is need to partner with the government as well as other different schools Whether the students and the school community have received adequate learning on responsible use of Internet (Smith et al., 2008) Whether there is a positive school climate, which stresses on the significance of schooli ng, respect, and decorum Whether there is a reduction incases of cyber bullying If the anti-cyber bullying campaign has spread to other regions and the impact it has Timeline for Evaluation Cycle Complete school change cannot be achieved within a short period and inadequate resources. In this regard, school leaders should set time from other activities and demonstrate their dedication by using their own time after the normal teaching hours as part of the evaluation committee (Smith et al., 2008). This schedule should happen regularly and the first evaluation should take place after a period of 1 to 3 years, the second one after 4 to 6 years, and the third evaluation after 7 to 10 years. Where required, outside resources should be sought to ensure collective effort for success. Conclusion Effective formulation of strategies to fight and eradicate cyber bullying will reach its productive stage after which students will study with mere influences from cyber bullying. Consequently, it will lead to high performances for the 9th grade students, which will lead to flourishing of the institution and attainment of institutional goals. Learning institutions must take the role of reducing cyber bullying at all cost in the institutions. Evaluating the outputs shows the potential capabilities of the program. Therefore, this evaluation will play an incredible role in the establishment of the program. Determining the outcomes was thus a vital step to avoid surprises after initiating the program. There are notable economic challenges associated with low income families. Therefore, policymakers must consider the implementation of workable economic strategies. This is vital in creating price and demand equilibriums (Arnold 2010, pp. 10).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The protection of consumer welfare specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In a typical economy, various consumers depict diverse preferences for various goods. It is vital to comprehend how policies have implications on the prevalent market trends. It is necessary to analyze the consumer behavior and preferences within specific economies. This paper presents a practical approach to policy implication on the purchasing trend within the market. The paper applies a hypothetical approach, with the analysis of the preference trend of goods X and Z. The Household Preferences over the Two Goods with Similar Policy Implications on the Household Items In Terms Of the Utility and Level of Consumption of the Two Goods Convex indifference curves are extensively used in the analysis of economic policies. In this scenario, the assumptions on the hypothetical goods are indicated. Good X is measured along the horizontal axis. On the other hand, good Z is measured along the vertical axis of the convex curve. The two policy options can be analyzed from the convex curve. The concept of ââ¬Å"diminishing marginal utilityâ⬠dictates the nature of the convex curve to be applied in the analysis (Fakhrul Islam Jabbar 2010, pp. 26). In establishing the appropriate household preference for the two goods, the rule of ââ¬Å"diminishing marginal utilityâ⬠may be applicable. The first policy advocates for the provision of the household with a voucher. The voucher is exchangeable for a specific quantity of the good X. Observably, the second proposition advocates f or the offering a supplement based on the income. This is to be sufficiently applied in buying the good of similar amount.Advertising Looking for essay on consumer law? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More A normal household consumption preference is applicable for the realization of equal policy effect (Mceachern 2012, pp. 34). This relates to the utility and level of the consumption of the two goods. Given the two goods, X and Z, the household is able to define its preference. Consequently, the household can arrange these preferences in an order. In this context, the preferences remain complete. The policies provide an equal stance and significance. The graph below indicates the action of normal household preference necessary for the equal action of both policies. (From Gilbert 2004) The Household Preferences over the Two Goods with Potentially Different Policy Implications on the Household Items In Terms Of the Utilit y and Level of Consumption of the Two Goods To achieve this aim, the transitivity preference of the household is applicable. An important assumption can be drawn from this association. The disparity indicates that there is more preference for a particular good (Schotter 2009, PP. 45). Therefore, it can be deduced that if X is preferred to Z, it is true that the household has a spatial preference. The transitivity preference condition is eminent in this association. The disparities on the impact of these two policies emanates from the differences in preference for the two goods, X and Z. When the household depicts a higher level of preference for a particular good, the other is likely to be diminished. Alternatively, the less preferred good may be supplied in fewer quantities in the market. The law of ââ¬Å"diminishing marginal utilityâ⬠may be applicable in explaining the variances in customer preferences (Feldman Serrano 2006, pp. 46).Advertising We will write a cust om essay sample on The protection of consumer welfare specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Consequently, these have a potential impact on policy formulation. Policy makers recognize the importance of engaging public participation processes. There is a potential indication from a positive policy on the utility or consumption level of a specific good. The basic implication is that most consumers prefer to utilize goods that have most preferred qualities. It is assumed that the household may be satisfied with any policy advocating for a particular good or product. The graph below indicates the state of preference in which the consumers are better off. (From Gilbert 2004) Explanation of the Possibility of Occurrence of a Substitute Effect Associated With Either of the Above Policies Most markets are likely to experience a substitute effect. The impacts of substitute effects are always noticed in the demand of various goods. The effects of any trans formation within the price encourage the clients to choose a particular good. These clients are more likely to purchase a specific good. This trend may be due to its reduction in price. A consequent rise or increase in the price of goods is likely to cause a shift in the pattern of purchase (Mceachern 2009, pp. 59). There is bound to be an occurrence of a substitute effect within any market. Therefore, within any typical economy, the consumers are more likely to buy goods that retail at very low prices. The interaction of substitution and income effect may also play an important role in the development of substitution. The income of the household may shift. This is due to eminent economic factors within the entire market.Advertising Looking for essay on consumer law? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Basically, substitution effect refers to the transformation on the consumption trend. Substitution effect may entail the alteration in the utilization patterns. This occurs as a result of a change notable within relative prices of goods within the market. This trend can be noticed in the action of various customers or clients. This is always as a result of the eminent trends within the general market. There is an evident possibility of occurrence of a substitute for both of the products under context (Mceachern 2012, pp. 78). This can be due to several factors. There are several factors that might lead to the emergence of this pattern. In the present era, various elements play a significant role in consumer behavior and preference. Therefore, there is a high possibility of occurrence of a substitute effect. An Explanation Whether the Policies May Succeed At Both of the Goals Ideally, it is notable that these two policies are not likely to succeed at both of these goals. The competin g demand and supply are important factors within the general market. Ideally, there are many elements that determine the market equilibrium (Schotter 2009, PP. 71). It is imperative to note that the diverse factors associated with market patterns are critical. The variances observed in the household preference are critical. Particularly, this is in the determination of the success of the two policies. Market conditions within any economy are susceptible to both external and internal factors. These factors interact to alleviate the possibility of existence of a perfect market . Therefore, there is bound to be a state of disparity in the action of these two policies. The customer preferences are more likely to rule the market demand and supply trends. Apart from these, there are other external factors that may lead to the development of notable disparities. These include weather conditions, tastes, and prevailing fashion within a particular economy. Income is an important factor in th e determination of prevailing market trends. Generally, high or increased rate of income raises the demand schedule. Consequently, these have a positive impact on the level of supply. The equilibrium point denotes the critical point within any market. However, even in equilibrium states, customers have the capacity to identify themselves with trendy and valuable products. There are other approaches that might be applied. Introduction of new products with lower market prices is possible. This approach is likely to shift the focus of demand within the market (Mceachern 2012, pp. 112). Apart from this, there is a potential shift in the consumer interests within the general market. The introduction of the third good is likely to help in the shift in the basic centre of interest. The preference includes one of the vital factors that dictate the prevailing market conditions. The graph below indicates the likelihood of occurrence of a substitute effect between the two goods. Consequently, this has significant impact on the policies. (From Gilbert 2004) Calculation of the Firmââ¬â¢s Cost Minimizing Input Combination and the Corresponding Level of Minimum Cost It is supposed that the company is presently experiencing the conditions of a short-run. The firm also has a fixed level of K at 25 units. Therefore, the calculation of the firmââ¬â¢s minimizing input combination and the corresponding level of minimum cost is as follows: Production function = Q = K0.5L0.5 Q = K0.5L0.5à = (8 X 0.5) X (4 X 0.5)à = 2 X 4à = 8 Cost function TC = FC + VC FC = Q FC = K0.5 X L0.5 FC = 8 x 0.5 X 4 x 0.5à = 8 TC 8 + 24à = 32 Cost minimization MC = MR (where MC represent marginal cost and MR represent marginal revenue) MC = change in TC/ change in Q TC = C X Q 25X4X8 = C X Q Q = 800 ââ¬â C Q = (800 ââ¬â C) C TC = 800C ââ¬â C^2 MR = MC 800 ââ¬â C^2 = 32 800 ââ¬â 32 = 2C 768/2 = 2C/2 C = 384 (minimum cost) Q = 384 / 8à = 48 units (minimum units) Ca lculation of the Input Combination the Firm Will Use In The Long Run and the Corresponding Level of Minimum Cost Production function = Q = K0.5L0.5 Maximum units = 100 Labour cost =$ 8 Capital cost = $ 4 Total cost = 84 = 32 x 100 unitsà = $3200 Total produce under the cost function Q = K0.5 X L0.5à = 8 Minimum cost per unit = 3200/8à =$400 An Explanation Whether the Firm Can Experience Economies of Scale In The Long Run The firm may not experience superior economies of scale in the long run. Basically, this is due to the observable differences within the unit cost variations (Schotter 2009, PP. 115). Important lessons can be drawn from the various outcomes of the calculations. As shown, the minimum cost in the short run is $384. On the other hand, it is notable that the long run cost is $400. The obvious variances in these costs depict important lessons. Generally, there is an inferior match between the expenditure and the income. List of References Arnold, A 2010, Economic s, South-Western Cengage Learning, Australia. There are lots of reasons for this: sometimes were required to read about a topic that is just plain boring, sometimes we try to read material that is written way above our current reading level, and sometimes we find that the writer is just plain bad at explaining things. It happens. If you find yourself reading an entire chapter or book several times without understanding it, try taking the following steps. Be sure to do steps 1 to 3 before you jump in to read the text. Difficulty: Hard Time Required: Differs by length of written material What You Need: A difficult book or passageNote paperPencilSticky note flagsQuiet room How to Do It 1. Read the introduction and reflect.à Any nonfiction article or book will have an introductory section that gives an overview of the main points. Read this first, then stop, think, and soak it in.Reason: All textbooks on a certain topic are not created equal! Every writer has a certain theme or point of view, and that will be introduced in your introduction. Its important to understand this theme or focusà because it will help you to recognize why certain examples or comments appear in your reading. 2. Look at the sub-headings. Most books or chapters will progress in some manner, whether they show a progression of time or an evolution of ideas. Look over the topics and try to find the pattern.Reason: Writers begin the writing process with an outline. The subheadings or subtitles you see in your text show you how the author started when organizing his/her thoughts. Subtitles show the overall subject broken down into smaller segments which are arranged in the most logical progression.à 3. Read the summary and reflect.à Right after you read the introduction and subheadings, flip to the back of the chapter and read the summary.Reason: The summaryà should re-state the points that were mentioned in the introduction. (If they dont, then this really is a difficult book to understand!) This reiteration of the main points may offer the material in more depth or from a different viewpoint. Read this section, then stop and soak it in. 4. Read the material. Now that youve had time to understand the points the author is trying to convey, youre more apt to recognize them when they come along. When you see a major point, flag it with a sticky note.à 5. Take notes. Take notes and, if possible, make a brief outline as you read. Some people like to underline words or points in pencil. Only do this if you own the book. 6. Watch for lists. Always look for code words that tell you a list is coming. If you see a passage that says There were three major effects of this event, and they all impacted the political climate, or something similar, you can be sure there is a list following. The effects will be listed, but they may be separated by many paragraphs, pages, or chapters. Always find them and make note of them. 7. Look up words you dont understand. Dont be in a rush! Stop whenever you see a word that you cant immediately define in your own words.Reason: One word can indicate the entire tone or view of the piece. Dont try to guess the meaning. That can be dangerous! Make sure to look up the definition. 8. Keep on plugging through. If youre following the steps but you still dont seem to be soaking in the material, just keep reading. Youll surprise yourself. 9. Go back and hit the highlighted points. Once you get to the end of the piece, go back and review the notes youve made. Look over the important words, points, and lists.Reason: Repetition is the key to retaining information. 10. Review the introduction and summary. When you do, you may find that youve absorbed more than you realized. Tips Dont be hard on yourself. If this is hard for you, its probably just as hard for other students in your class.Dont try to read in a noisy environment. That might be ok under other circumstances, but its not a good idea when attempting difficult reading.Talk to others who are reading the same material. You can always join the homework forum and ask advice from others.Dont give up! Aluminium, being a metal would be expected to form an ionic bond with Chlorine, which is a gaseous non-metal. This is not the case however due to the very small size of the Aluminium atom, which makes the Aluminium nucleus to exert very high attractive forces on its outer electrons, making it difficult for the atom to loose electrons in order to form ionic bonds.
